Read the following scenario and choose the appropriate evaluation paradigm and technique, giving reason
for selection.

A small publishing house wishes to buy a desktop publishing (DTP) system to produce brochures, publicity
material and some publications. It has done a requirement analysis and as a result narrows down the choice
of three DTP systems. The publishing house has obtained the copies of the three systems (with relevant
manuals and training material) for one week. Your job is to evaluate the systems and present
recommendations to the managing director. The limitations on the evaluation are that you are not very
experienced in interface evaluation, video equipment and testing area are not available; the systems are
demonstration copies (there is no access to the software and the systems only save small files on
corresponding to three to four pages of text and graphics); you have sufficient access to individual office
staff but only for period of up to one hour.

You are well familiar with virtual agents. Virtual agents help us search to the web, as e-commerce assistants
that give us information about products, as characters in video games, as learning companions or instructors
in educational programs, and many more. But there is a website that does not include virtual sales agents
but is based on a conceptual model of browsing (e.g., Amazon.com).

a. Is it easy to find information about products on such website?

b. Is any kind of personalization used at the interface to make the user feel welcome or special?

c. Would the site be improved by having an agent? Explain your reasons either way.

d. Finally, discuss which site (agent based or non-agent based) you would trust most and give your
reasons for this.
