QUESTION 1 ANSWER
Eddy’s outstanding achievement as a world class athlete despite of his special
circumstances is a strong evidence that Malaysia education system is able to provide equity
and quality education for all. Ministry of Education (MOE) has introduced various policies
and directions of national education with the common objectives on improving the current
condition education system to be flexible to the current development especially from the
aspect of student diversities. This is in line with the National Philosophy of Education (NPE)
which aims on providing on- going effort towards developing the potential of individuals
holistically.
Based on the policies and directions of national education, there is one common
concept which can support Eddy to realize his dream which is providing same access to
quality education to children with special needs. The quality education which is available for
Eddy can be examined from 5 aspects which are curriculum flexibility, intervention and
healthcare support, teachers and other specialists support, infrastructure and finances as
well as community involvement. From the curriculum flexibility aspect, Eddy will access to
the same curriculum as his nondisabled peers but use different teaching and learning
materials as Eddy is not developmentally delayed but has difficulty in movement. Thus,
teachers or specialists play a massive role in creating an inclusive learning environment for
Eddy. Teacher need to prepare materials specifically for Eddy such as puzzles and games
with large pieces, building blocks and visual aids. By using these materials, Eddy will feel
motivated to learn and help to improve her muscle development.
From the aspect of intervention and healthcare support, Eddy will be provided with
treatment that can help to overcome his physical limitations. As an analogy, he will undergo
physical therapy as his after-school activities which is a type of rehabilitation of physical
impairments by training and strengthening one’s muscles. The therapy will be carried out
with the utilization of assistive equipment such as weights, bands, rollers and balance balls.
This therapy can provide Eddy with an opportunity to play and have fun. Eddy can also
undergo this therapy at specialized service centers.
Apart from that, to help Eddy to feature in Tokyo Paralympics, there is also
availability of a robust support structure in the form of technical aids and physical support
infrastructure for Eddy. For instance,

In Education Development Master Plan (2006-2010), inclusive learning approach was


taken by giving more emphasis on emotional, spiritual, physical and intellectual
development. A special curriculum adapted from national curriculum and industrial training

curriculum is dedicatedly designed for the special needs children. Thus, Eddy can opt for the
suitable curriculum based on his capability. Besides,
