What’s New

Are you familiar with the pictures below? How do these pictures show aspects of
Chinese culture?

What is it

Most of the traditional music used the ancient Chinese pentatonic scale. The scale
lends to making simple harmonies, but perhaps to maintain the Confucian norms of
simplicity and clarity, harmony isn’t emphasized. Chinese vocal quality is often
described as being high-pitched and nasal. Here are some example of popular and
melodious folksongs of China;

Mō Lì Huā
(Jasmine Flower)

This beautiful and melodious song is familiar to the world. According to Qian
Renkang, an expert on Chinese music, Jasmine Flower is the first Chinese folk song
that spreading abroad. In the summer of 2008, each time when the melody
of Jasmine Flower was played at an awarding ceremony of the Beijing Olympics,
people would think of the beautiful jasmine flower described in the lyrics and the girl
who wants to pick the flower but is afraid of the criticism of the flower guard.

Fengyang Flower Drum Song

Fengyang is a folk-song and dance piece popular in Anhui Province. Originally, it was
performed by two seated female singers (usually sisters-in-law). It was
typically performed in public for gratuities, as Fengyang County was prone to flooding
from the Yellow River. The Fengyang Flower Drum song was associated with beggars
from Fengyang County which experienced a disastrous series of flood and drought
during the late Ming Dynasty, forcing residents to sing for money. It is classed as one
of the speech-song.

Chinese pentatonic scale.

Chinese vocal quality is often described as being

high-pitched and nasal.

Traditional Korean music represents a world of

draw listeners in like a breath.
The scale lends to making simple harmonies, but

Parenthood is the state of being a parent and it is when you decided to bear or
adopt children. It is a great responsibility for you will be sustaining the needs of your
new formed family. Responsible parenthood is the will and ability to respond to both
the needs and aspirations of your family.

Responsible Parenting is defined as the series of decisions couple makes to ensure

the best possible life for the family and community which they belong. It is the ability
of the parents to raise children in the Filipino way to satisfy the social, economic and
religious responsibilities of a family.

Factors to consider when thinking about Parenthood:

1. Happiness and stability of the marriage.
2. Physical and emotional readiness of both parents for the parenthood.
3. Financial stability.

These factors are really important before you go through with parenthood. It is
important to check whether you are ready and capable of bearing and raising a child
before you get into it. The couples’ bond should be stable and strong so that when the
child arrives, they will easily survive the additional marital stress brought by being a
parent. Second is that they need to prepare themselves not only physically, but also
emotionally so that they will not be having a hard time adjusting during the first few
years of being a parent. Last but definitely not the least, they should have enough
resources and finances to carry out the responsibility of being a parent.

carefully planned: Appropriate nutrition, emotional support, affection, mental

where the overall health of the child depends on the prenatal care they
received.
2. Inculcate Discipline

themselves, to distinguish what’s right and wrong, accept limitations, to use
and appreciate freedom responsibly and to understand that in able to live
happily, you should be at peace not only with yourself but also with others.
3. Develop Social Competence
- Children should be taught to develop social competence in order to acquire
the ability to consider other’s perspective concerning a situation and learn
from past experiences.
4. Provide Education
- As parents, it is their duty to nurture their child’s education. It is one of the
most important things to invest in since it is where their children gain
knowledge and skills that they’ll be needing as they go on in life.

14
5. Train Children to Become Good Citizen
- Parents should serve as a role model to their children’s social responsibility
and really contribute to the betterment of their community.

their abilities to manage their own money in a way that is considered
healthy and productive.
