Factors to
consider when
evaluating a
spoken text
FLUENCY
This refers to the continuity,
smoothness, rate, and effort with
the choice of the spoken
language. Fluency helps you
explain your ideas, communicate
your thoughts to others,
convince, and reach out to your
audience.
TONE
This describes voice pitch, but
the same term is also used to
describe the speaker’s attitude as
reflected in his/her treatment of
the topic or subject, and how the
audience perceives the overall
message. Some examples are
serious, sad, funny, light, and the
likes.
COHESION
This refers to the manner of
connecting the ideas to make a
logical presentation of the topic
or subject.
CORRECTNESS
This refers to the accuracy of the
data or information given in the
text and whether or not the
sentences are grammatically
correct.

Nervousness is
normal. Practice and
prepare!

Your speech is about
them, not you.
Organize your
material in the most
effective manner to
attain your purpose
Watch for feedback
and adapt to it.
Let your personality

with a dynamic end.
