 paper assignment entitled “ Introduction”. The writers also wish to express his deep and
sincere gratitude for those who have guided in completing this paper.

This paper contains information about introductions, either introducing yourself or

others, in both formal and informal situations. This paper also provides information about
things that need attention and need to be presented at the introduction.

Hopefully, this paper can help the readers to expand their knowledge about
introduction. Maybe this paper is still no shortage, for it the writers need your constructive

BAB 1

PENDAHULUAN

1.1 Latar Belakang ( Background)

Perkenalan adalah unsur penting pertama yang harus dikuasai untuk bisa
 berkomunikasi dengan orang lain, seperti saat berada di dalam kelas yang baru, guru akan
menyuruh siswa-siswi untuk memperkenalkan diri masing-masing. Tujuannya agar suasana
kelas menjadi akrab. Alasan lain, supaya orang yang diajak berbicara atau berdiskusi merasa
nyaman, atau bahkan supaya kita sendiri merasa nyaman di tempat dan suasana baru.

Introduction is the first important element that must be mastered to be able to

communicate with others, like when in a new classroom, the teacher will instruct the
students to introduce themselves. The goal for the classroom atmosphere to be familiar.
Other reasons,
so that people who are invited to talk or discuss feel comfortable or even so that ourselves
feel comfortable with new place and atmosphere.

1.2 Rumusan Masalah ( Formulation of the problem)

Adapun topik yang akan dibahas dalam makalah ini adalah ( as for the topic discussed
in this paper is) :

1. Apakah pengertian Introduction? ( what is the meaning of introduction?)

2. Apasajakah hal yang perlu diperhatikan saat perkenalan? ( what are some things to
keep in mind when introduction?)

3. Apa sajakah hal yang perlu disampaikan saat perkenalan? ( what are the things that
need to be communicated during the introduction?)

4. Buatlah contoh perkenalan! ( make an introductory!)

PEMBAHASAN

2.1 Pengertian Perkenalan ( Introduction)

Perkenalan ( Introduction) adalah ungkapan ekspresi yang digunakan untuk

 perkenalan atau memperkenalkan diri dalam Bahasa Inggris. Dalam Bahasa Inggris kata
“ introduction” diartikan sebagai berikut. 

1. Introduction is making something known for the first time or formally telling two
 people who the other person is.

2. Introduction is present ( a person) to another so as to make acquainted.

3. Introduction is acquaint ( two or more persons) with each other personally.

Ungkapan atau ekspresi perkenalan atau memperkenalkan diri dalam Bahasa Inggris
( Introduction) sangat banyak sekali variasinya. Dan setiap variasi mempunyai fungsi
dan
 peran yang berbeda, tergantung situasi dan kondisi pembicaraan. Berikut ini contoh
ungkapan ekspresi perkenalan atau memperkenalkan diri dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Perkenalan di bedakan menjadi dua bagian yaitu memperkenalkan diri sendiri dan
 juga memperkenalkan orang lain. Dalam Bahasa Inggris dikatakan bahwa “ Introduction
self or other is something that we usually do when we meet someone for the first time,
and introduction the others when they never meet that person.” (Darminah.2016: 133)

Informal introduction is used when you introduce yourself to someone at

about the same age with you. Informal introduction is used in a nonformal situation.

2.2 Hal-Hal yang Perlu di Perhatikan dalam Perkenalan Diri

Things to note in self introduction are :

1. Sampaikan dengan sopan ( Convey politely)

2. Gunakan gesture tubuh yang baik sesuai adat dan budaya setempat ( use a good
 body gesture according to local customs and culture).

3. Hindari menyampaikan hal-hal negatif ( avoid conveying negative things).

4. Awali dengan jabatan tangan jika perkenalan langsung ( start with handshake if
direct introduction).

5. Awali dengan salam ( start with greetings).

2.3 Hal yang Perlu di Sampaikan dalam Perkenalan Diri

The things that need to be conveyed in self introduction are:

1. Sampaikan salam ( convey greetings).

2. Sampaikan kalimat perkenalan ( convey the introductory sentence).

3. Sampaikan nama, alamat, asal ( convey name, address, origin).

4. Sampaikan umur, pekerjaan, hobby, dll ( tell your age,job,hobbies,etc).

5. Sampaikan salam penutup ( convey the closing greetings).

  

Contoh kalimat pembuka dalam perkenalan:

  Hi = Hai

  Hello = Hallo

   Hi friends = Hai teman-teman

   How do you do? = Bagaimana kabarmu?

Contoh kalimat perkenalan :

  Let me introduce myself = Perkenankan saya memperkenalkan diri.

   Allow me to introduce myself = Izinkan saya memperkenalkan diri.

Contoh kalimat penutup:

    Nice to meet yo = senang bertemu denganmu

   It is a pleasure to meet you = senang bertemu denganmu

   See you next time = sampai bertemu dilain waktu.

 

Good bye= selamat tinggal

   Thank you = terima kasih

   Thank you very much = terima kasih banyak

2.4 Contoh Teks dan Dialog Perkenalan ( Reading Section)

a. Teks Perkenalan

Good afternoon guys! My name is Netti Sianturi. Here I’m going to introduce
myself. I was born on 16th November 1999 and grown up in Sibolga City, a small
town in North Sumatera. I’m studying as first year student in Teacher Training
Faculty Program majoring in PGSD in this prestigious college, University of
Medan.
 As for my family, i haven’t brother or sister so my parent have a child, it’s
me. My father was dead 15 years ago so now i live with my beautiful mom. My
mom is a treader and my mom like cooking so much, when my mom make a cake
or other, the taste is delicious because it in my life, my favorite food is food made
my mom.

I am a friendly and enthusiastic person and flexible to work in anytime.

My life philosophy is do the best in your positive activity make your God, parent,
family, friends proud of you. I’m interested in so many things such as
listening to music, reading book especially novel and writing poetry. My other
hobby is singing in my bedroom.

As for now I’m only focusing my attention on my study. I’m being

confidence myself, dreams, and goals that i want to achieve. So this is me standing
in front all of you. Nice to meet you. Thanks.

2.5 Listening and Writing Section of Introduction

( In this part you will hear dialogue from a video, so listen carefully and answer the

Hana: Hello. Let me introduce myself. I’m your new neighbor, my name is Hana.

Lisa : Hello. I’m Lisa. Nice to meet you. 

Hana: Nice to meet you too. What floor do you live in?

Lisa: I live on the sixth floor. And you?

Hana: I live on the second floor.

Lisa: May I know where you come from?

Hana: I come from Bali and now I work in Jakarta.

Lisa: When did you move in?

Hana: I moved in four days ago. And you? Have you been living here long?

Lisa: I have been living here for ten years.

Hana: Are you originally from around here?

Lisa: No. I’m originally from Surabaya. I moved here after I graduated from senior
high school.

Hana: Do you work here?

Lisa: No, I don’t. I’m only a housewife. My husband work for technology company.
And what about you?

Hana: I work for insurance company. I am an accountant.

Lisa: Do you like your job?

Hana: Of course, I do.

From the dialogue, I know that Lisa and Hana are neighbor, Lisa live on the 6 th floor and Hana
live on the 2nd floor. Lisa originally from Surabaya ang Hana oroginally from Bali. Hana work
for insurance company as accountant and Lisa only a housewife but her husband work for
technology company. Lisa have been living there for 10 years and Hana have been living there
for 4 days. Hana like here job.
 

2.6 Speaking Section

PENUTUP

3.1 Kesimpulan ( Conclusion)

Perkenalan adalah salah satu unsur terpenting yang perlu dilakukan saat ingin
memulai komunikasi dengan orang baru, suasana baru. Dalam berkenalan ada hal yang perlu
diperhatikan dan perlu di sampaikan. Subjek yang ingin berkenalan harus memperhatikan
hal-hal yang menyangkut adat istiadat sekitar agar tidak terjadi pemikiran negatif dari orang
lain. Dalam situasi perkenalan formal sebaiknya menggunakan bahasa formal dan dalam
situasi perkenalan informal sebaiknya gunakan bahasa informal.

things that are about customs around to avoid negative thoughts from others. In formal
introductory situations should use formal language and in informal situations should use
informal language.

3.2 Saran ( Suggestion)

Sebaiknya, perkenalan dilakukan dengan menggunakan bahasa yang sopan dan tidak
menyampaikan unsur negatif agar suasana perkenalan berjalan dengan baik. Perkenalan juga
hendaknya dilakukan dengan memberikan sapaan di awal perkenalan dan ucapan terima
kasih di akhir perkenalan.

Preferably, introduction is done by using polite language and not convey the negative
elements so that the atmosphere of introduction goes well. Introductions should also be done
 by giving a greeting at the begining of the introduction and a thank you at the end of the
introduction.
