Suggest at least 6 ways on how Erikson’s theory can be useful for you as a future
teacher.
First published in year 1950, It is without doubt that up until this very day Erik Erikson’s
Psychosocial Theory of Human Development is still and will always be a highly regarded
and meaningful concept. This theory is as useful as it can get especially for me that will
hopefully take up the role of a future teacher. Some of the reasons in no specific order
includes but isn’t limited to the following key points emphasizes:
The established idea that completion of a single stage is prerequisite for the
next stage of development.
It is given that Erik Erikson’s theory is interpreted by many as a guideline
for our development throughout life until death. But as for my own stand, it
is of utmost importance to take note that each and every one of us is
different, being said, we may need to adapt in contrasting ways when it
comes to determining and sorting out our own survival needs. And there’s
nothing wrong with that. As a future educator, it is vital for me to take note
of that not everyone reaches the same level at the same time. Therefore, if
needed, we should be open to apply acceptable modifications for students
who might be a bit behind from others.
Erikson believed that his theory was a “tool to think with rather than a factual
analysis.”
If I would look at myself now as the teacher that I want to be in the future,
Eric Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory of Human Development will surely help
me to widen my horizons especially when it comes to what teaching and
learning style I may opt to adapt considering the specific stages of a child,
in a bigger picture and if given a chance, it would even lead to the
betterment of the school’s objectives.
