Suggest at least 6 ways on how Erikson’s theory can be useful for you as a future
teacher.

First published in year 1950, It is without doubt that up until this very day Erik Erikson’s
Psychosocial Theory of Human Development is still and will always be a highly regarded
and meaningful concept. This theory is as useful as it can get especially for me that will
hopefully take up the role of a future teacher. Some of the reasons in no specific order
includes but isn’t limited to the following key points emphasizes:

It occurs in all people.

This shouts and speaks substance to
everybody, me included. Some of the
researches and other theorists as well,
firmly believes that Erik Erikson’s point
of human development stands a
principle of inevitability with regards to
a person’s journey as he or she ages.
Why is this useful to a future teacher
like me, you may ask? Because I
believe that it is through this
Psychosocial Theory that it openly
gives us an explanation and definition
of how Life is like a television show or
a movie - it occurs in a series of
jampacked challenges and lessons
that helps us grow. As a person of my
age now, I could look back to how the
process of child development occurred
to me, and basing off this theory I can
now presently put inputs as to how I
should direct my life in order to end up
being a thriving adult, and hereafter a professional. It is really a great
foundation for a person to rely on.

Personality development in a chain of stages.

This theory gives a rather clear explanation when it comes to the
characteristics of every developmental stage. This will lead me to a positive
cognizance that it is of paramount that we keep an open line of
communication between those of age, adults, and young adolescents. With
me being aware of this concept, it will help me to develop an understanding
personality towards the future students that I will handle, considering that
we all go through phases.

Influence of social experience in the process of a person’s growth.

The idea of social experiences was given emphasis in this Psychosocial
Theory. The outcome of interacting towards others can make or break a
person’s development. As a future educator, it is with assurance that I will
be connected to a number of students as well as fellow educators, and the
people in the society as a whole. I should always put in mind that great
social skills will in turn inaugurate to great relationships which then branches
out to an even greater well-being, not just for me but for the people that I
present my energy with.

The established idea that completion of a single stage is prerequisite for the
next stage of development.
It is given that Erik Erikson’s theory is interpreted by many as a guideline
for our development throughout life until death. But as for my own stand, it
is of utmost importance to take note that each and every one of us is
different, being said, we may need to adapt in contrasting ways when it
comes to determining and sorting out our own survival needs. And there’s
nothing wrong with that. As a future educator, it is vital for me to take note
of that not everyone reaches the same level at the same time. Therefore, if
needed, we should be open to apply acceptable modifications for students
who might be a bit behind from others.

In the face of crisis and adversity…

Challenges here and there. Lo and behold, there’s no other way out. We
need to face them, face them with power from within. As we pass through
each of this development stages, we should expect that there’s got to be a
roadblock out there somewhere. By resolving this challenges one at a time
- in accordance with the pace that we’ve mastered, it will in return help us
develop flourish, prosper, and achieve psychological strengths and positive
character traits.

Erikson believed that his theory was a “tool to think with rather than a factual
analysis.”
If I would look at myself now as the teacher that I want to be in the future,
Eric Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory of Human Development will surely help
me to widen my horizons especially when it comes to what teaching and
learning style I may opt to adapt considering the specific stages of a child,
in a bigger picture and if given a chance, it would even lead to the
betterment of the school’s objectives.
