• Basic knowledge of DT Parameter & KPI

2
Drive Test Concept
• Drive Test or Data Collection/Monitoring are used to check
current RF condition in Cellular network for verification
process or optimization.
• Drive Test conducted to collect RF data that stored as Log
files. This Log files will be analyzed further for network
optimization or prevent any problem that will impact
network in the future.
• Drive Test can be done by various software depend on
operator and vendor requirement, such as Tems, Genex,
Nemo, etc.

Drive Test Preparation (Tools)

LTE Modem Laptop GPS

5
Probe (Device Configuration)
• Connect LTE Dongle and GPS
• Add device by follow this step below :

6
7
Probe (Import Map)
• Import Map and Route Tab file

8
Mapinfo (Prepare Drive Test Route)
• Always prepare Drive Test Route before go to site.
• Prepare in Mapinfo, and then import in Probe just like open Map File

9
Probe (Import Engineering Parameter)
• Prepare Engineering Parameter in Excel file format with
following template:

10
Probe (Import Engineering Parameter)
• Import the Engineering Parameter that have been prepared
by following this step :

11
Probe (Drive Test Recording)
• Before starting to do drive test don’t forget to record the log files for further
analysis.
• This process is important to record any activity on UE ( Radio Parameter, Event,
Layer 1,2,3 Message , etc. ).

12
Drive Test Parameter

13
• PCI
– In LTE systems, each cell has a physical cell
identifier (PCI), enabling UE to differentiate
radio signals of different cells. PCI Range 0 –
503

• RSRP
– Reference Signal Receive Power is average
power received from a single reference
signal resource element.

• SINR
– Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio as
indicator of network quality by comparing
the signal strength to background noise.

14
• Transmission Mode
– Way of transmission between eNodeB Antenna and UE
Antenna.

• Rank Indicator
– RANK1 means the UE is seeing a good SINR only on one of its
receive antenna so asking the eNodeB to bring down the
transmission mode to single antenna or transmit diversity.
– RANK2 from the UE means good SINR on both the antenna
ports and eNodeB can schedule MIMO.

15
Drive Test Method
• SSV (Single Site Verivication)
– Drive Test for verification of New Site to test both of coverage
and functionality
– Moving Idle & Dedicated around New Site
– Static Test :
• Download
• Upload
• CSFB ( Call Service Fall Back)
• Ping Test
• Speedtes
• DT Cluster Optimization
– Drive Test for optimization bad spot in Cluster Area
