REFLECTION OF LIGHT
 Objective:

The purpose for experiment is to prove the law of reflection for plane, convex
and concave mirror.

 Equipment list:
I. Ray optic kit
II. Light source
III. Protector
IV. Blank papers

Theory:
 Reflection:

When a light ray strikes on surface of mirror the ray reflect back and change its
direction of travel.

 Law of reflection:

Law of reflection state that angle of incident is equal to the angle of reflection.

θinc=θref

 Procedure:
I. Draw the mirror by placing the mirror on the white paper.
II. Also draw a normal on the paper so that results will be more accurate and precise.
III. Place the flat superficial of the glass in the front of optic light source. Switch the
knob of the source to yield a single ray of light.
IV. Strike the light on the glass with an angle of 300, and trace the reflected.
V. To measure the angle use protector. Trace both incident and reflected rays.
VI. Repeat the experiment for 450 and 600.
VII. Then repeat the process for both the concave and convex glasses.
VIII. Calculate the angles and précis results in data table and figures.

 Results

I.During the experiment there was a slight difference of angle of incident ray and
the reflected ray.
II. The change was due to the little rough surface of the mirror.
III. The dust particles also cause slightly change in system efficiency.
IV. The ray of light was blur at the end so, the measurement was not accurate.
 Plane mirror:
 Reading table:

Sr.no Incident angle Reflected angle

1. 300 30o

2. 45o 46o

3. 600 61o

Concave mirror:
Sr.no Incident angle Reflected angle

1. 300 30o

2. 45o 45o

3. 600 60o

 Reading table:

Convex mirror:
Sr.no Incident angle Reflected angle

1. 300 30o

2. 45o 45o

3. 600 60o

 Reading table:

Hence the law of reflection for light is proved
