Responsive Call to Worship (Psalm 43):
Leader: Vindicate me, my God, and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from
those who are deceitful and wicked.
People: You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about
mourning, oppressed by the enemy?
Leader: Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy
mountain, to the place where you dwell.
People: Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with
the lyre, O God, my God.
Leader: Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?
People: Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Opening Hymn: Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior, all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight, Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;

Angels descending, bring from above Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
Refrain

Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior, am happy and blest,

Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
Refrain

Unison and Silent Prayers of Confession Call to Confession: John 3:16

Heavenly Father, your Son died and was raised up in power. Now enable us to die to our sin
in repentance so we may rise to new life in Him. We confess to you: Lord, though you should
guide us, we inform ourselves; though you should rule us, we control ourselves; though you
should fulfill us, we console ourselves. We think your truth too high, your will too hard, your
power too remote, your love too free. But they are not! And without them, we are of all
people most miserable. Now heal our confused minds with your word, heal our divided wills
with your law, heal our troubled consciences with your love, heal our anxious hearts with
your presence, all for the sake of your Son, who loved us and gave himself for us.
Affirmation of Grace: John 3:17

Response: Christ of the Upward Way | vs. 1
Christ of the Upward Way, My guide divine,
Where You have set Your feet, may I place mine;
And move and march wherever You have trod,
Keeping face forward up the hill of God.

Message: Our Wavering Faith (Job 19:13-27)

Pastor Malcolm Davis
Hymn: Why is Your Faith so Small?
Hymn tune: "Abide With Me"

Why is your faith in God’s great love so small?

Why does your heart shrink back at duty’s call?
Are you obeying this: "Abide in Me?"
And does the Master’s word abide in thee?

O blessed assurance from our risen Lord;

O precious comfort breathing from the Word.
How great the promise, could there greater be?
Ask what you will, it shall be done for thee.

Ask what you will, but O, remember this,

We ask and have not when we ask amiss.
If weak in faith, we only half believe
That what we ask we really shall receive.

Musical Offering: How Beautiful | arr. Lloyd Larson

John and Cheryl Hill, clarinets

Closing Hymn: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

Guide Me, O Thou great Jehovah, Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold me with Thy powerful hand;
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven, Feed me till I want no more;
Feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain, Whence the healing stream doth flow;
Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through;
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer, Be Thou still my Strength and Shield,
Be Thou still my Strength and Shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan, Bid my anxious fears subside;

Death of death, and hell’s destruction, Land me safe on Canaan’s side;
Songs of praises, songs of praises I will ever give to Thee,
I will ever give to Thee.
