The document provides a flow chart summarizing the steps to design a beam. It includes:
1) Inputting data such as dimensions, material strengths, and loads.
2) Checking design requirements and calculating demand values.
3) Iteratively determining steel ratios and reinforcement amounts for shear and moment resistance.
4) Designing shear reinforcement including calculating shear forces and spacing of stirrups.

Calculation of d, Xumax, Mumax, Astmin, Astmax
Ast1 =Astlim= Mulim/(0.87fy(d-0.42Xumax) Ast1 is calucalated from Mu/bd2 and from
Ast2= (Mu-Mulim)/(0.87fy(d-d')) standard Pt formula AT= F/0.87fy (To be provided at side face of beam) No Yes Mu<Mulim AT= F/0.87fy (To be provided at side face of beam) Compuste fsc from ϵsc Asc= 0.87fyAst2/fsc ϵsc= 0.0035(Xumax-d')/Xumax Ast=Ast1 Asc= 0.87fyAst2/fsc Ast=Ast1+Ast2 c d' Layer 1 c' CG of top Steel Layer 2 Area of Steel Check Ast provided is checked for minimum steel, maximum steel and as per IS 13920:2016 Support Ast Bottom= Max(Top Ast/2, Ast required as per moment) Mid Ast (Both face)= Max(Support Ast/4, Ast required as per moment) Layer 2 CG of bottom Steel c' Layer 1 d' c
Moment of Resistance (Supports)
From Ast and Asc provided, Hogging and Sagging Moment of Resistance is calculated. For Hogging M.R, Top Ast acts as Tension R/F and bottom Ast acts as Compression R/F and For Sagging M.R, vice versa. T=0.87fyAst C=0.36fckbXu+fscAsc As now, Compression R/F are provided much more than calculated, fsc correspond to Xumax wont be correct. As due to much more compression R/F provided, Xu would be different. To calculate fsc, Xu is required and to calculate Xu, fsc is required. Xu and fsc are inter-related. They are determined by Trial and error procedure. Iteration is carried out till fsc and Xu value is such that T=C. Assume Xu--->Єc=0.0035(Xu-d')/Xu--->Determine fsc from strain--->Correct value of Xu and fsc when C=T--->Determine Mr Moment of Resistance, Mr= 0.36fckbXu(d-0.42Xu)+fscAsc(d-d')
Shear Reinforcement Design
Equivalent UDL intensity is manually entered in the sheet considering all slab loads and wall loads. Vu(D+L) correspond to 1.2(DL+LL) is calculated (Simply Supported case) (Due to formation of Plastic Hinges) Left Support (A): Right Support (B): Vu1= Vu(D+L)-1.4(MrSA+MrHB)/L Vu1= Vu(D+L)+1.4(MrSA+MrHB)/L Vu2= Vu(D+L)+1.4(MrHA+MrSB)/L Vu2= Vu(D+L)-1.4(MrHA+MrSB)/L s represents sagging and H represents hogging The Stirrups are designed for maximum shear force (Vus) neglecting concrete capacity Spacing,s = 0.87fyAsvd/Vus, 0.87fyAsvd/0.4b, 0.75d, 300mm (IS 456:2000), = d/2, 8dlong_bar(min) (IS 13920:2016) provided upto 2d from face of support (Minimum) Stirrup spacing at remaining span is based on spacing required as per IS 456 or d/4 as per IS 13920 (Minimum)
