Teaching Philosophy Reflection

Initially, I wrote a teaching philosophy when I first pursued my education degree back in

2012, however I’m sure wherever it may be, it is very different from the teaching philosophies I

have written over the last four years of college. While these philosophies may not have changed

that much over the last few years, I can say that I truly want to make my teaching philosophy a

reality for my classroom and for my students. In my philosophy I discuss my desire to be the

change that I want to see in the world, and although Mercer County is a small area, I believe that

I can make difference, one child at a time. Throughout my student teaching experience, I have

strived to be the best role model and teacher to my students that I can be. Although I haven’t

gotten to spend the normal amount of time in my student teaching placement, the experience that

I have had subbing in every classroom at Brushfork elementary has tested each part of my

teaching philosophy and given me a more realistic insight on everyday teaching. I have had to

teach students from all different families, ethnic backgrounds, and religious beliefs. I have had to

encourage and hold the hand of the student who did not sleep last night or get anything to eat that

morning yet had to discipline the child who makes straight A’s and comes in with the nicest

clothes and backpack. Each student challenges you and teaches you something that you didn’t

know about yourself, and this is something I wouldn’t have known to write in an original

teaching philosophy. As I begin my career as a special education teacher, I will continue to make

my classroom diverse and remember that each child learns differently, but that does not mean

that they are incapable of learning. This student teaching/subbing experience has shown me that

this proves to be just as true in a classroom of general education students as it is for special

education students.
I will continue to learn my students no matter what classroom they are sitting in and

accommodate to what they need from me each and every day. Although my teaching philosophy

may change over time as I gain years of experience, I am certain that my core beliefs and

intentions will remine the same as they have.
