My family
Hi, my name is Juana. And this is my family.
My mother’s name is Liliana. My father’s name is Joel. I have two siblings: Carlos
and Paola. I am 24 and I´m the youngest. Paola is 34 years old and Carlos is 28.

Typical American is a story about a Chinese man who comes to America to study. Instead, he
tries to get rich, but this causes problems.

Plot Summary
Yifeng Chang comes to the United States to study. He changes his name to Ralph. His sister
comes to the United States, too. She changes her name to Theresa. Ralph marries Theresa's
friend, Helen. Theresa becomes a doctor. Ralph finishes his studies. Then Helen and Ralph have
two daughters.

Ralph's friend, Old Chao, helps Ralph to get a good job in a university. Old Chao introduces
Ralph to Grover Ding, a rich Chinese-American businessman. Ralph really likes Grover. Ralph
wants to be rich, too.

Grover tells Ralph he should give up his job at the university and buy a restaurant with him.
Ralph listens to Grover. Ralph and Grover buy a restaurant, and Ralph works very hard. But the
