Researchers have also studied the relationship between age and career indecision and found no
significant relationship between the two Schmidt et al, 2011

Jamabo (2014) conducted a study aimed at determining the influence of parental socio-economic
variables on adolescent’s vocational aspiration. A stratified random sampling was used to select four
schools from Port Harcourt Metropolis, Nigeria and a sample of two hundred students (100 males, 100
females). The findings revealed that parental socioeconomic status has strong influence on adolescents
vocational aspiration. Adolescents vocational aspiration is not necessarily influenced by their parental
level of education. Adolescents are well disposed to their parents vocation. Recommendations given
includes admonishing parents not to project their aspirations / ambitions on their children, the role of
guidance counselors in assisting a child realize his / her potential should not be underestimated, children
should be allowed free rein in pursuing careers of their choice.

Rathge, Mullis and Mullis (2009) in their study selected participants from 18 randomly selected schools,
6 urban schools and 12 rural schools and administered the Career-Decision Making Questionnaire.
Students responses were analyzed and compared across variables of gender, grade level, parent
education and residence. The most significant influence for students seemed to be the parents,
including both fathers (37 percent) and mothers 23 (percent). The study summarized that many
adolescents in North Dakota are subject to many influences in making future career decisions. Parents
continue to be seen by adolescents as a major influence in their lives, and a large number of adolescents
see consistency in their career ambitions and their parents career ambitions for them. Broader social
influences such as economic conditions also seem to be reflected in adolescent choice of occupations.

Many students choose their major based on their academic ability (Beggs et al., 2009). On the other
hand, some students have the drive to put in the work in very labor intensive fields but do not have the
intelligence to perform the tasks that are needed for their chosen field. These students often receive
help from tutors, special education teachers, and special exceptions when taking exams and doing
homework. Students are given every opportunity to excel and work in their chosen field (Beggs et al.,
2009).

It reviewed relevant literatures on and the process of making career decisions and also on career day
outcome. Three hypotheses were developed for the study which was an experimental study that had an
experimental and a control group. 120 students were randomly selected from two secondary schools in
Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria. The Career Decision Making Process scale which
measures awareness of career indecision and commitment to make a decision, personal interests, needs
and abilities of adolescent students, information about occupational prospects, making a career decision
by arranging alternatives in an order of priority and implementing a career decision was used to collect
data from the subjects. The treatment package was the career day. Analysis of data revealed that career
day had significant impact on the career decision making of the adolescent students. However, sex was
not a significant factor and had no effect on the decision making process of the adolescent students. It
was therefore concluded that whether one is male or female does not matter today in making a career
choice. Therefore, career day remains a good intervention strategy for career information and
awareness.

Hewit (2010) notes that most people are heavily influenced either by professions that their parents
favour; or the ones that their educational achievements have opened for them. Yet, other individuals
are influenced by careers that offer prospects of higher benefits including salary, allowances and
holidays.

Job Accessibility

Job accessibility was also considered as a deciding factor for youth's career decision in a collectivist
Burkina Faso society where nearness to employment locations prevented students from choosing
careers related to their preferred fields of endeavor (Atitsogbe et al., 2018).
