Notes:
). Pin (psi) is valid for any specified joint efficiency (0.7 to 1.0). 1.0 requires 100% radiograph.
a). E=1.00 implies 100% radiographed and is recommended for these diameters.
b). Ellisoidal and Torispherical Pex is valid only for E=1.00 as formulated , see 2). Immediately below.
). Alternate, iterative, calculations are required for P ex for E not equal to 1.0, except Hemispherical.
). Note that if the head is mounted "inverted" the P in value applies to the Pex service.
a). This is useful for 15 psi vacum pumping and low pressure, I.e., 0-7.5 psi operation.
). The Torispherical crown radius has been chosen equal to 1.0*D. (= ASME head)
). E=0.70 is the joint efficiency for non-radiographed joints, probably not applicable here.
). The 9% Ni Steel and AL 5083 Allowable Stress values are the ASME values for t< 1.5" in the case 0f Al..
). Hemispherical heads (spheres) have diameters that yield volumes equal to Rt. Circ. Cylinders of D=45 and h=45 m.
). The large Pin value is the maximum liquid head plus 1 atmosphere (for vacuum insul.), the worst case.
). Careful: no considerations of Pex cylinder collaspe stiffener rings is made here. See UG-28, 29, 30.
). The ASME standard Torispherical head knuckle radius = 0.06*L is assumed here.
). The shipboard values (below heavy line) approximate current practice: tank volume = (135,000 m^3)/4
). W/re the Allowable for Al 5083 thick plate - not considered above - , see the table below:
