Classroom / Simulated environment

The Imperial College of Australia ensures that the training delivered is to the standards of a real workplace
context. To meet this context The Imperial College of Australia has implemented an approach to delivery that
uses the facilities and systems of The Imperial College of Australia as the workplace. The

Imperial College of Australia has placed all of its own policies and procedures and proformas and legislation
on a dedicated drive/website accessible by students. Students are given a wide range of websites as part of the
qualification that similarly provide access to wide ranging workplace documentation to support individual units
such ashttp://www.comcare.gov.au/virtual_workplaces/

This ensures that students have access to a full range of workplace documentation. The various facilities and
equipment of The Imperial College of Australia are also accessible to students e.g. photocopiers, computers,
board rooms, presentation equipment etc. A variety of training approaches will be implemented during the
course of the qualification. The Imperial College of Australia’s trainers represent the role of a real client and
portray the workplace demands while working on projects. This includes role-play of difficult & diverse type
customers.

Students prepare timelines, schedule milestones, communicate, prepare documentation, and conduct training
in accordance with the client (trainer) demands. Students will also be expected to work as a team (group
work/assignments), fulfilling responsibilities and expectations of the job and workplace.

If role plays are required, the assessor Will ensure all ‘actors’ or ‘participants’ perform in a professional
manner - reflecting an actual workplace. Participants will be informed of their expected involvement.
a. If a simulated workplace is used, it must allow for distractions such as background noises, ringing
telephones, interruptions - etc.

b. Each student must dress appropriately and professionally in line with workplace standards.
Relating their project to their current or preferred vocational direction

In the event that the assessment is activities will impact on the safety of a student or bystander, the assessment
must be stopped immediately.
Retention of your submitted work
ASQA the national regulator of Vocational Education and Training requires that The Imperial College of
Australia keeps all the original assessment works for a period of six months or until the end of student’s course
whichever is the longer. Students must keep all copies of their submitted assessments. You may require them to
resubmit their assessment(s) where original submissions are damaged or corrupted. No original work can be
returned to students until after the period prescribed by ASQA.

Re-Assessment
Students who are dissatisfied with their assessment outcome may apply for reassessment by contacting their
trainer or assessor.

Reassessment policy and instructions –

As per our current ‘Student agreement and offer acceptance form’, If a student attended the class, submitted
his/her assignment on time, attempted the theory and/or practical assessment and receives NYC in Class activity
/Assignment /Theory & Practical Assessment, Imperial will provide the student with a free second chance of re-
assessment without any charges. A re-assessment fee of $50/unit of competency will be charged, if the student
fails the unit on second attempt.

The total number of attempts to pass any unit of competency are limited to three including the first assessment
with regular class. The student have to re-enrol in the unit if he/she is unsuccessful after three attempts. Student
have an option of making a request to change his/her assessor for second and third attempt.

Absent during Assessment without a valid reason - As per our current ‘Student agreement and offer
acceptance form’, if you are absent from class without a valid reason (for example, a medical certificate is not
provided) and miss part of or an entire assessment, Student will need to repeat the unit as a catch up in
consultation with the student welfare officer.
Reasonable adjustment

A legislative and regulatory framework underpins and supports the delivery of vocational education and training
across Australia. Under this framework, providers of vocational education and training must take steps to ensure
that learners with recognized disabilities can access and participate in education and training on the same basis
as learners without disabilities. Sometimes reasonable adjustments, are made to the learning environment,
training delivery, learning resources and/or assessment tasks to accommodate the needs of a learner with a
disability. An adjustment is reasonable if it can accommodate the learner’s particular needs, while also taking
into account factors such as: the views of the learner; the potential effect of the adjustment on the learner and
others; the costs and benefits of making the adjustment.
Adjustments must:
 Be discussed and agreed to by the learner with a disability
 Benefit the learner with a disability
 Maintain the competency standards
 Be reasonable to expect in a workplace.
Adjustments are not required if they could:
 Cause the RTO unjustifiable hardship
 Harm other learners.
Making reasonable adjustments requires the RTO to balance the need for change with the expense or effort
involved in making this change. If an adjustment requires a disproportionately high expenditure or disruption it
is not likely to be reasonable.
Some examples of reasonable adjustments that could be made for the assessments include:
 verbal responses to written activities (such as questions and answers tasks and case studies)
 conducting assessor workplace observations via Skype or other video format (for example, in cases of
students in remote areas)
 rescheduling assessor observations in the event that conditions may not be suitable (for example, safety
concerns, required resources not being available, lack of appropriate clients on the day, and so on)
 Record any reasonable adjustments made in the space provided in the re task’s checklist in the Assessment
Record Tool.

ASSESSMENT 1 (PROJECT)

SCOPE:

The following scenario required to documentation produced in a small project environment that reflects
understanding of client requirements and the technical skills required for a small Wireless Local Area Network
(WLAN) for an organization.

SCENARIO:

You are a network administrator for ABC Company. The Officeworks Superstores Pty. Ltd. is your client. In a
branch of Officeworks, they have four cash counters and two counters for printers, photocopy and other jobs.
Total of 6 counters have in a Officeworks branch and six counters’ computers and two printers are used and
connected by wired local area network. Officeworks needs to avoid wired LAN and would like to implement
wireless LAN because of some drawbacks in wired LAN. Now, you are asked to implement a Wireless Local
Area Network (WLAN) for the six computers and the 2 printers for only this Officeworks branch. Before you
implement the Wireless LAN, you need to consider the organization existed system and their requirements.
Besides that select appropriate access point device then install and configure wireless access point and finally
configure network.

The following requirements need to be design and document to support the project prior to implement the
wireless network:

 Identify the requirements of client and wireless LAN implementation.

 Select the hardware and software components to meet the Wireless LAN implementation.

 Select an appropriate access point device based on current and future client needs.

 Install and configure access point to provide wireless access in the network.

 Check the access point that works or not for wireless connection.

 Install an appropriate wireless card for legacy hardware environment in the place.

 Develop and create the document for client and their employees.

This is to be assessed on: _

Answer
 Identify the requirements of client and wireless LAN implementation.
• Throughput
• Number of nodes
• Connection to backbone LAN
• Service area
• Battery power consumption
• Transmission robustness and security
• Collocated network operation
• License-free operation
• Handoff/roaming
• Dynamic configuration

 Select the hardware and software components to meet the Wireless LAN implementation.

Hardware

o HUB
o Switch
o Power Supply

 Select an appropriate access point device based on current and future client needs.
The IEEE 802.11b/g standard is currently widely accepted in the industry and offers the required balance of
range, network throughput, and device mobility support to successfully serve the majority of the University
community's needs. Newer standards, such as IEEE 802.11 upgrades, can be reviewed and deployed if they
provide better security and throughput than 802.11b/g.

 Install and configure access point to provide wireless access in the network.
o Turn off your computer and modem and follow these instructions to set up a wireless
access point:
o Using an Ethernet network cable, connect the Ethernet port of your cable modem or router
to the Internet (or WAN) port of your wireless access point.

o Disconnect the cable end that is plugged into your computer and plug it into the Internet (or
WAN) port of your wireless access point if your modem is already connected to your
computer via an Ethernet cable.

o Use an Ethernet network cable to connect your wireless access point to your computer.
Connect one end of the cable to one of your wireless access point's LAN ports and the
other end to your computer's Ethernet port.

o Wait two minutes after turning on your DSL or cable modem.

This gives your modem enough time to start up and develop an Internet connection.

o Wait one minute after connecting the power adapter to your wireless access point and
plugging it into an electrical socket.
This allows your wireless access point to boot up, connect to your modem, and start
transmitting a wireless signal.

o Turn on computer.
You may need to configure your wireless access point at this point. For more information,
consult the CD or directions that came with your wireless access point.

 Check the access point that works or not for wireless connection.

I inspect the access point and they seems to be working

 Install an appropriate wireless card for legacy hardware environment in the place.
I Installed wireless networking card

 Develop and create the document for client and their employees.

o On your Windows PC, click the Start button, then Control Panel, then Devices and Printers.
o Add a printer by clicking the Add a printer button.
o Click Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer in the Add Printer wizard.
