3.1. General
3.1.1. Crack like linear indications are cause for rejection
3.1.2. Two or more indications within 3D (where D is the length or
maximum diameter of the larger of the indications) shall be
considered a single indication whose size is the smallest diameter
that can contain all indication in that group
3.1.3. All indications greater than 0.4 mm (0.015 in.) shall be reported.

3.2. Severity
3.2.1. Applicable to rotating components with critical stress regions such
as shaft journals, coupling hub regions, integral trust collars, and
fillet regions of the shafts and tie bolts.
3.2.2. High stressed rotating components such as tie bolts, coupling hubs,
and shaft oil seal.
3.2.3. Moderately stressed areas of rotating components or high to
moderately stressed stationary components such as shaft! rotor
main bodies.
