CASE ACTIVITY: A PLAN FOR NEW UPSCALE CAFETERIA
A new upscale, cafeteria restaurant was recently opened in front of Simad’s main gate near the
highway, and the restaurant is experiencing tough times; business is slow, and the owner believes
that most campus students do not know about the restaurant because it is located in an area that is
a bit away from students ‘current entry gate. The owner of the restaurant has contracted you and
asked you to develop a public relations plan to 1) create awareness of the new restaurant, and 2)
increase reservations by 25% over the next three months. Using the eight-point plan and a
modest budget, develop a public relations plan or program that will help the restaurant meet its
objectives.

 Situation

The situation of the restaurant is that, it is opened in front of Simad’s main gate near the
highway, therefore the restaurant is experiencing tough times, and the most of the campus
students do not know about the restaurant because it is located in an area that is a bit away from
students ‘current entry gate so there is less communication between customers and the restraint
workers.

 Objective

1) Create awareness of the new restaurant.

2) Increase reservations by 25% over the next three months.

 Target audience

The target audiences are customers (students and staffs) of the university.
 Strategy

The restaurant can achieve its objective by increasing awareness of the customer through
promotion.

 Tactics

To make the promotion for the university we need to attach posters about the restaurant on the
walls of the university to make it familiar with everyone.

 Calendar

The restaurant must consider the calendar like when the students are in holidays, for example the
campus is off for three months in every year.

 Budget

The budget of the restaurant will be out- of pocket expenses.

 Evaluation

The benchmark survey must be made that measures people’s perceptions before and after
changing restaurants’ plan.
