REMINDER!

consumers (costumers) is called retail merchandising.

Kinds of retail stores according to the goods

handled
1. Convenience store – Most Filipinos are engaged in the Sari-sari store business
as a means of livelihood.
Asari-sari store or tindahan is a small store that is commonly located within a
house, and usually occupies a small area of the house's facade or garage. It sells
everyday items such as milk, coffee, sugar, rice, cooking oil, soy sauce and
vinegar, soap, shampoo, and detergent. It also sells sweets and other snacks
such as bubble gum, ice candy, crackers, biscuits, and powdered drinks. Most
sari-sari stores are located in residential areas where homeowners or residents
can have easy access to basic goods at low costs. The purpose of the sari-sari
store is to provide basic goods to nearby residents who do not want to go far just
to buy a single unit of a product.

A sari-sari store is part of a process called retail. Retail is the process of selling
goods to distributors or retailers, who then sell their products to end users or
customers. The operator of a sari-sari store is called a retailer. The goods that
are sold are called merchandise.

There are several goods available for sale in this kind of store, such as rice,
cooking oil, sugar, soap, medicine, and food items. Can you count how many
sari-sari stores there are in your place?

2. Department store - This store sells different kinds of goods distributed in the
different sections of the store. The children's section is where you can buy
clothes and shoes for children; the ladies section is where you can buy all sorts
of things for women, etc. This store is very convenient because you can do your
shopping in one place.

3. Grocery store - A grocery store is a store that retails food items. A grocer, the
owner of a grocery store, stocks different kinds of foods and sells these
"groceries" to customers. Large grocery stores that stock products other than
food, such as clothing or household items, are called supermarkets. Small
grocery stores that mainly sell fruits and vegetables are known as produce
markets (U.S.) or greengrocers (Britain), and small grocery stores that
predominantly sell snack foods and sandwiches are known as delicatessens.

4. Drug store – This store mainly sells medicines and other health products. It
needs licensed pharmacies and an approval to operate from the Food and Drug
administration (FDA) to operate

5. Bookstore - The main product are books and other reading materials. This type
of store is mostly found in Cities.
6. Fruit stand – This is a stall where different fruits for sale are displayed. They are
common on markets

construction, such as nails, paints, cement, and many more.
