 Vaccinations are up and COVID Positives are down and we are on Tier 3!!!!!! So
we are slowly opening with 10 people in the Clubhouse. Call your primary staff to
schedule some time in the Clubhouse. If you can’t remember who your primary staff is,
jump on the ZOOM or call the Clubhouse. We will continue to follow all the guidelines,
with temp checks, masks and 6 feet. We are going to take small safe baby steps.

 We are looking forward to having a few members at time in the Clubhouse and working
together to set up our Clubhouse after our landlord completed upgrades to the
Clubhouse. We hope to get things going again with garden projects.

 Special Mahalo to our aquaponics crew, headed up by Janeane. The beds are cleaned and
will be ready for planting soon.

 Mahalo to our Friends of Ko`olau Clubhouse Board! They have a great fundraiser coming
together “Prime Rib Dinner Plates for 4”. Great Food for a Great Cause at a Great
Price. Contact the Clubhouse for more information or to volunteer.

 Mahalo to our Friends of Ko`olau Clubhouse Board! They have a great fundraiser coming

a Feather” via Zoom on Saturday, April 10 at 5:00 pm. Cost is $25/person and all participants

The Hawaii Clubhouse Advocacy Coalition consists of members, staffs, and colleagues within the com-
munity. We have been meeting with PHOCUSED Director, Christy MacPhereson and we have been
able to do so many advocacy activities under her guidance. Our group has been working together
since the start of the Pandemic. We have been working on zoom. Throughout the past year, we have
established our group, met with 11 Senators and Representatives prior to the legislative session, dis-
cussing issues and concerns regarding our individual Clubhouses. The Advocacy group would like to
continue all year long to keep all Clubhouses up-to-date with all issues within the Clubhouse and all
Legislative Issues. One major goal of this group is to restart Chief’s Round Table.
The member of this group decided that they needed a “Working Group” Meeting throughout the Legis-
lative Session. Members of this group are from all Clubhouses Statewide, Keoki Wright, Ko’olau Club-
house, Derwin Teranishi and Flora Patton, Waipahu Aloha Clubhouse, Gail Stewart and Ernest Neves,
Honolulu Clubhouse, Kelly Cogo, Hale Oluea Clubhouse, and Stephen Hanohano, Diamond Head
Clubhouse.
Our group worked with Senator Jarrett Keohokalole’s office to introduce a bill in the House of Repre-
sentatives and the Senate called “Vending Facilities,” SB1233 & HB1112. Although this bill did not pass,
Clubhouse learned a lot about the Legislative Process and we were able to interact with a lot of Sena-
tors and Representatives and we adapted, like the rest of the world, to the changes caused by the Pan-
demic. This year, all testimony for the State Capitol is on ZOOM, each of these members represented
the Clubhouse and testified on expanding vending facilities, increasing the minimum wage, minimum
wage for those individuals who currently work for sub-minimum wage, and a lot of other bills.
The last really kool thing our group did was join Queens Day Treatment and teach a section on how to
do Advocacy within the community!

Coming in 2022: 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The Federal Communications Commission has recently adopted rules designating
this new phone number for Americans in crisis to connect with suicide prevention
and mental health crisis counselors. The transition, which will take place over the
next two years, will result in phone service providers directing all 988 calls to the
existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by July 16, 2022. Under the new
rules, calls to 988 will be directed to 1-800-273-TALK, which will remain
operational during and after the 988 transition.
Hawaii is among more than 30 states that use the 988 prefix, and so must
transition to 10-digit dialing for local calls. Starting Oct. 24, 2021 Hawaii residents
will need to dial area code 8-0-8, followed by the telephone number. Following this
change, local calls dialed with only seven digits may not be completed, and a
recording will inform you that your call cannot be completed as dialed. Residents
should consider automatic and speed dialing equipment, such as medical
monitoring devices, fax machines, internet dial-up numbers, fire or burglar alarm
and security systems or gates once the change goes in effect. These will need to
be reprogrammed to include the full 10-digit number. It is also recommended that
cell phone users to manually change their contact numbers to add the area code.
Until July 16, 2022, customers must continue to dial 1-800-273-TALK to reach the
National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. Starting
July 16, 2022 dialing 9-8-8 will automatically route your call to the Lifeline.

Feeling Blessed
I am so happy because I got off
conditional release this month
after 15 years. I now am off CR
and will continue to being a
success in my recovery and
wellness. I’ll continue to participate in
my wellness by making sure to take my
meds, staying true to my faith, meeting
with my treatment team and attend
psycho-social programming at Ko’olau
Clubhouse.
