Validity and reliability are meaningful measurements that should be taken into account

when attempting to evaluate the status of or progress towards any objective a district, school or

classroom has

Teachers should be skilled in developing, administering, scoring, interpreting and using

the results of assessment methods appropriate for instructional decisions. Teachers should be

skilled in analyzing the quality of each assessment technique they use and communicating

assessment results to others, including developing valid pupil grading procedures.

It is important to have assessment that are reliable and valid. To improve reliability, test

should have more items, clearly worded items, include moderately difficult items that

differentiate between students and objectivity in scoring. To improve validity of a test, items

should be content related, criterion related and construct related.

I also think that it is very important for teachers to realize that even if they try as hard as

they can to make the assessment very valid and reliable, there may always be some amount of

errors. This could come a variety of things such as student illness, anxiety, emotions,

distractions, absents, cultural bias, or poorly written items. I think it is important for teachers to

give students the benefit to doubt when factoring reliability and validity
