Procedure text describes a process of how to do or make something through a sequence of


series. Generic structure of procedure text is consisted of goal, materials, and methods.

This section shows you how to construct procedure text. The use of action verbs is also
demonstrated in this section.
Example of Procedure Text
Goal: How to use camera

Materials:
a) A digital camera (DSLR camera or another camera)
b) The object (find something that interesting to you like animals, buildings or the others)

Methods:
a) First, find an object (animal, building, or another interesting object)
b) Second, handle the camera and turn on it
c) Third, center the object and manage the zooming control to get the target object
d) Forth, take the picture, then hold the shutter speed
e) Fifth, ensure a light appears to know if the camera is set to go
f) Lastly, press shutter all the way down

This section shows you how to ask and give information through conversation. You will
learn how to develop procedure text through conversation.

How to Make Birthday Cake


Andy : Hi Marie, how are you? I need you help. I want to make a birthday cake for my
mom’s birthday.
Marie : Hi Andy, I am good. Will tell you how to make it.
First, you have to prepare some ingredients, such as 7 eggs, 1 teaspoon of baking
powder, 1 ½ glass of flour, 1 glass of sugar, 1 tablespoon of chocolate powder, 2 tablespoon
of melted chocolate, and 250 grams of melted butter.
Andy : What next?
Marie : Next, you have to prepare a big bowl, eggs, and baking powder altogether.
Then, you mix them all and pour the melted chocolate, chocolate powder and
melted powder.
Andy : Wait. It sounds an easy thing to do. I bet I can make a delicious birthday cake for my
mom.
Marie : Are you sure? The baking process is not finished yet. The next step is to stir it with
spatula evenly, then prepare the baking pan covered with butter and flour. Later, pour
the dough gently and bake it for 30 minutes.
Andy : Wait! Now it sounds like a long baking process.
Marie : You will be all right. Now it is coming to the last step when the birthday case is
ready to serve.
Andy : All right! You make it sound easy now. Thank you, Marie.
Marie : You are welcome!
