II. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES

Time &
Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities
IMs Used
5 minutes/ A. Preliminary Activities
Visual Aids, 1. Prayer
Let us all stand and feel
the presence of the
lord. Ms. Josephine,
please lead the prayer.
2. Greetings (Students will pray.)
Good day everyone!
How are you today?
Good morning, Sir. We’re fine.
Thank you.

That’s good to hear.

3. Securing the Cleanliness
Before you take your (Students will follow.)
seats, please pick up
the pieces of papers
and plastics near you
and arrange your chairs
properly.

4. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, do we None, Ma’am.
have absentees today?

5. Review
Before we proceed to
our next topic, let us
recall the lesson that
we have discussed
yesterday.
Yes, Sandy. Last meeting, our topic was all
about finding the center and
radius given the equation.

Exactly! Thank you.

10 minutes/ 6. Motivation
Board and Before we proceed to our
Chalk/Visual topic, let us have first an
Aid activity titled “Create More
Word in the Word
Permutation”. In this activity,
we create four groups. Then,
all we need is to make words
as many as possible. The
team that has many words will (Students will cooperate)
be the winner.
5 minutes/ B. Presentation of the Topic
Visual Aids Today, we will discuss
about Permutation.
(Students will listen)
C. Presentation of the Lesson
Objectives
Before we proceed to our
lesson, let us know first our
objectives for today.
Read our lesson
objectives, Dave.
At the end of the lesson, students
must be able to:
a) illustrate the permutation
of objects;
b) appreciate permutations
as vital part of one’s life;
and
c) list the possible ways a
certain task or activity can
Thank you. be done.
20 minutes/ D. Lesson Proper
Visual Aids 1. Activity
and
Activity let us have first a simple
Materials, activity titled “ARRANGE ME
IN DIFFERENT WAYS”. In
this activity, I will call three
students then you will arrange
them in different ways. 6 ways, Sir

2. Analysis
Based on our activity, how
do you arrive on your
answer? What method did
you use??
By listing method.
With the activity who can
give the definition of
permutation? Miss Mae. Based on our activity and what
I’ve observe it is about
Excellent observation, Mae arrangement.

Permutation is an
arrangement of all or parts
of a set of objects with
proper order. Permutations
can be determined by
listing, us, tree
diagramming, and by using
the Fundamental Counting
Principle. FCP is used to
calculate the total number
of permutations in a given
situation. The principle may
not tell what exactly those
permutations are, but it
gives the exact number of
permutations there should
be. The FCP tells that you
can multiply the number of
ways each event can
occur.

3. Abstraction
To formally start our
discussion, a while ago from
our activity I ask you to show
another way of finding the
answering in the activity. So,
aside from listing method, we
can also use factorial.
Factorial means it is the
product of all positive integers
less than or equal to n.
For example: Simplify 5!
Answer: 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1
= 120

Illustrative Example 1:
Suppose that you secure your
bike using a combination lock.
Later, you forgot the 4 - digit
code. You can only remember
that the code contains the
digits 1, 3, 4, and 7.
a. List all possible codes out of
the given digits.
b. How many possible codes
are there?
c. Use the Factorial to check if
the number of permutations is
correct.
a. Possible codes containing the
four digits 7, 4, 3, 1: (The list must
be made systematically to ensure
completeness.)

1347 3147 4137 7134 1374 3174

4173 7143 1437 3417 4317 7314
1473 3471 4371 7341 1734 3714
4713 7413 1743 3741 4731 7431

b. There are 24 possible

outcomes.

c. 4! = 4 x 3 x 2 x 1 = 24
llustrative Example 2:
In how many ways can Aling
Rosa arrange 6 potted plants
in a row? Using the Factorial
Let N = number of possible
arrangements of the plants
N = (6) (5) (4) (3) (2) (1)
= 720

1. Application
A close friend invited Anna to
her birthday party. Anna has 4
new blouses (stripes, with
ruffless, long-sleeved, and
sleeveless) and 3 skirt (red,
pink, and black) in her closet
reserved for such occasion.
1. Assuming that any
skirt can be paired with
any blouse, in how many
ways can Anna select her
outfit? List the
possibilities
2. How many blouses and
skirt pairs are
cpossible?
3. Show another way of
finding the answer in
item 1.
Answer that in your notebook.

2 minutes/ E. Generalization
Power point Based from our activities,
Presentation/ who can sum up our
Visual Aids lesson for today?

Yes, Jane? Permutation is an arrangement of

all or parts of a set of objects with
proper order. So, basically order is
important.

Good job! What else,

James? So, aside from listing method we
can already know the possible
ways to arrange the objects by
using factorial.

Correct!
Do you have any questions
and clarification?
None.
3 minutes/ F. Valuing
Power point
Presentation/
Visual Aids
How important permutation in
real life? Ms. Jessa
Still thinking, Sir.

I’ll show a picture and try to

think of an answer.

It is easy to look or identify the

things you need inside the grocery
because it is well arranged.

None.

IV. EVALUATION (15 minutes)

Calculate the following
1. 7!
2. 6! + 4!
3. 12! + 3!
4. 9! / 2!
5. 9! – 2! / 4!
V. ASSIGNMENT
1. List at least 3 real life application of permutation.

require additional
activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial
lessons work?
