2. Motivation Before we delve into our

things off with a brief game called
“Lyrics Leaf Challenge: Unveiling
Words Through Melody”
I have here a fun and meaningful
song prepared, and as we sing
along, you will pass this cabbage
quickly and safely without
throwing it to the person next to
you, or else, there will be a
deduction on your grades. When
the music stops, the person
holding the cabbage will pluck one
of its leaves and try to arrange the
jumbled letters written on it to
form a complete word or phrase.
Also, the students beside the
person holding the cabbage will
also help determine the words.
As we figure out these mixed-up
letters, they're like clues for the
words we'll talk about today. So I
want everyone to actively
participate.
Are you ready? Yes, Ma’am!

background about Francis

referred to as the "Master Rapper"
or "FrancisM," was a renowned
Filipino rapper, songwriter, and

creating a unique and influential
sound in the Philippine music

(The teacher will post a picture of

kaleidoscope and will let the
students describe its look)

Just like a kaleidoscope, this song

is celebrated for its upbeat rhythm,
catchy melody, and its message of
hope, unity, and cultural pride.
"Kaleidoscope World" reflects
Francis Magalona's vision of a
diverse and colorful world, where
people from different backgrounds
come together to create something
beautiful.

But, before we continue to our

discussion, we will have another
activity called “Rhythmic Riddles”
Let me first present to you the
instructions.

“Kaleidoscope World” that will

good initial understanding of the
song.
This activity isn't just about
enjoying music and writing down
your favorite lines; it's about
training our ears to pick up on key
details, understand context, and
interpret meaning—all essential
skills for analyzing narrative texts
because… (proceed to introducing
the topic)
3. Abstraction Our lesson for today is about the
different listening strategies for
simple and short narrative texts.
Let us understand first the
difference between hearing and
listening.
In your own understanding, what
do you think is the difference
between hearing and listening?
Would you please give your
thoughts, Mr. ____? I think the differen
between the two
hearing is when yo

try to understand it

That is right!

Hearing is an accidental and

automatic brain response to sound
that requires no effort. We are
surrounded by sounds most of the
time.
(The teacher will further explain its
meaning)
Listening, on the other hand, is
purposeful and focused rather
than accidental. As a result, it
requires motivation and effort.
Listening, at its best, is active,
focused, concentrated attention for
the purpose of understanding the
meanings expressed by a speaker.
(The teacher will further explain its
meaning)
Now that we already understand
the difference between hearing and
listening, let us discuss the
different listening strategies in
understanding simple and short
narrative texts.
Active Listening: Staying focused
and engaged throughout the
narration. Avoiding distractions
and maintaining concentration on
the content being presented.
Visualizing: Creating mental
images or visual representations of
the story as it unfolds. This can
help reinforce understanding and
retention of the narrative content.
Summarizing: Periodically
pausing and summarizing key
points or events in the narrative.
This can aid in comprehension and
reinforce memory of important
details.
Note-taking: Writing down key
points, characters, or events as you
listen to the narrative. This can
serve as a reference for later review
and help solidify understanding.
Reflective Listening: After
completing the narrative, take a
moment to reflect on what was
heard. Consider the main themes,
messages, or lessons conveyed by
the story.

different listening strategies in
understanding simple and short
narrative texts?
Do you have any questions? None, ma’am!
4. Application Now, I am going to give you
another task where you will use
what you’ve learned to assess your
understanding about our topic for
today.
Here are the instructions for our
activity:
1. The class will be divided into 2
groups.
2. The song “Kaleidoscope World”
will be played and you must listen
attentively, by choosing one
listening strategy that you like.
3. After listening to the song, take a
moment to reflect on your listening
experience and write down your
thoughts and observations on the
song you listened to.
4. 10 minutes will be given to each
group to work on the activity.
5. Each group will choose one or
two presenters to share their work
on the class.

Have you ever noticed how we get used to hearing things like airplanes, lawn mowers, and
the noise outside? We tend to ignore these sounds unless they're important to us, like our
phone ringing. This is because our ears are always picking up sounds, but our brains learn
to focus on the ones that matter most to us, example young mga sigaw ng nanay niyo. What
background noises do you usually tune out to focus on what's important to you? Remember,
this is all about how our hearing works!
Listening is when we pay close attention to what someone is saying so we can understand
what they mean. Sometimes we listen really well, but other times we might not listen as
carefully. Later, we'll talk about why this happens and learn some tricks to become better
listeners. It's all about focusing on understanding what the speaker is trying to say.

1. Active Listening: This means really focusing on what someone is saying without
letting your mind wander. Imagine it like listening to your favorite bedtime story –
you pay close attention to every word so you don't miss any exciting parts.
2. Visualizing: When you're listening to a story, try to picture it in your mind like a
scene from a book. It's like creating your own mental picture gallery! This can help
you understand and remember the story better because you're imagining it
happening right in front of you.
3. Summarizing: Summarizing is like giving a quick overview of what's happened so far
in the story. It's like telling your friend the main parts of a book you read – you
mention the important events without going into too much detail. This helps you
keep track of what's important in the story.
4. Note-taking: Note-taking is simply jotting down important things as you listen to
the story. It's like making a mini-book report for yourself so you can remember key
details later on. Just write down anything that seems important or interesting to you!
5. Reflective Listening: After you finish listening to the story, take a moment to think
about what it all means. Ask yourself questions like, "What was the message of the
story?" or "How did the characters change?" It's like having a little chat with yourself
to really understand the deeper meaning behind the story.
