(a) Consider the following parameters for polycrystalline solar cell (310 – 340 W) at room
temperature: αI = +0.055 %/k, αv = -0.44 %/k, αP = -0.57 %/k, Isc = 8.99A, and Voc = 36.72V.
Find Isc, Voc and maximum power at 65 oC. (5)
(b) What would be the output of the module in the below Figure when connected to the 5.0Ω
resistor, if the cell temperature was: 75 °C, and 0 °C ? (10)

(a) A 10cm x 10cm solar cell produces a current of 2.5A and a voltage of 0.5V. If 800W/m 2 is the
solar insolation, what will be the efficiency of the solar cell? (5)
(b) A 1.5m x 2.0m PV module is illuminated by 550W/m 2 solar insolation. If the module
efficiency is 12%, what will be the power output of the module? (5)
(c) A solar module with the date Voc = 43.2V, Isc = 10A is given. The installed cells have an
ideality factor of a = 1.5. (15)
a) A house owner decides to use a solar PV system to run 2 CFLs (14 watt each) and 1 fan (60
watt) for 5 hours per day. What is the total load? Which PV module and battery is available for
use? Estimate the total cost of the system as well. (6)
b) How can we design the system in part (a) for 24V solar setup? (4)
