Answer the following questions:

Question – 1: For the circuit shown in Figure 1,

a. What the function of the circuit?

b. Determine the average and rms output voltage.
c. Determine the maximum peak inverse voltage PIV of each diode.
d. If the reverse recovery time of each diode is 6 µs, and the rate of fall of the diode
current is 80 A/µs. If the softness factor is unity, determine the peak reverse current
and the storage charge.

Question – 2: For the circuit shown in Figure 2, the ac source is 300 V, 50 Hz supply.
The UJT parameters are: 𝑽𝒔 = 30 V, 𝜼 = 0.55, 𝑰𝑷 = 10 µA, 𝑽𝑽 = 2 V, 𝑰𝑽 = 10 mA and
the width of the triggering pulse is 50 µsec.
a. What is the function of UJT and the transformer devices in this circuit?
b. Design the circuit parameters such that the delay angle is controlled to be 45°.
c. Sketch the waveforms of the voltage across zener diode, the capacitor, the resistance
R3, the load voltage and the voltage across SCR.
