Need And Sarai ‫ וַ תּ ְִה֥י שׂ ַָר֖י‬For she was ‫ כִּ֥י ֲע ָק ָר֖ה‬And Rachel was (29:31) ‫ וְ ָר ֵח֖ל ֲע ָק ָרֽה‬And Leah ‫וַ תֵּ ֶ֣רא ֵל ֹאה כִּ֥י‬
was barren; ‫ ֲע ָק ָר֑ה ֵא֥ין ָל֖הּ‬barren (25:21) ‫ִה֑וא‬ barren. saw that she ‫ָע ְֽמ ָד֖ה ִמלֶּ ֶ֑דת‬
she had no (11:30) ‫וָ ָלֽד‬ ‫ וַ תֵּ ֶ֣רא ָר ֵח֗ל כִּ֣י‬had risen (30:9)

child And Rachel saw ‫ לֹ֤א יָ ְֽל ָד ֙ה ְליַ ֲֽעקֹֹב‬from bearing

that she had not ‫וַ תּ ְַקמֵּ֥א ָר ֵח֖ל‬
born to Jacob and (30:1) ‫ֹת֑הּ‬ ָ ‫בַּ ֲֽאח‬
Rachel was jealous
of her sister.
Petition And ‫וַ יּ ְִתפַּלֵּ֥ל‬ And Isaac ‫וַ יּ ְֶעתַּ֨ר‬ And she said to ‫֤אמר‬ֶ ֹ‫וַ תּ‬ You will ‫ֵא ַל֣י תּ ָֹבוֹא כִִּי‬
Abraham ‫ַאב ָר ָה֖ם‬
ְ entreated the ‫יִ ְצ ָח֤ק ַל ֙ה‬ Jacon, bring me ‫ֶאל־יַ ֲֽעק ֹ֙ב‬ come to me ‫ֹיך‬
ָ ִ‫שָׂכֹ֣ר שׂ ְַכ ְרתּ‬
prayed to ‫ ֱאל ִֹה֑ים‬-ֽ‫ל־ה‬ ָ ‫ֶא‬ LORD ‫ְלנֹ ַ֣כח‬ sons; if not, I am ‫ָה ָֽבה־לִּ֣י ָבנִ ֹים‬ for I have ‫וּד ֵא֖י בְּנִ ֑י‬
ָ ‫בּ ְֽד‬
God and God ‫וַ יּ ְִרפָּ֨א‬ opposite his (25:21) ‫אשְׁתֹּוֹ‬ ִ dead ‫ם־ַאיִ ן ֵמ ָת֥ה‬
֖ ‫וְ ִא‬ hired your ‫וַ יִּשְׁכַּ֥ב ִע﬽ָ֖הּ‬
healed ‫ל ִֹה֜ים‬-‫ֱא‬ wife. ‫אנֹ ִֽכי‬ fee by my ‫בַּלַּ֥יְ ָלה‬
Avimelech ‫ימ ֶ֧ל ְך‬
ֶ ‫ת־א ִב‬ֲ ‫ֶא‬ son’s (30:16) ‫ֽהוּא‬
and his wife ‫ת־אשְׁתּ֛וֹ‬ ִ ‫וְ ֶא‬ And Jacob’s anger ‫ר־ַאף יַ ֲֽעקֹ֖ב‬
֥ ‫וַ יִּ ַֽח‬ dudaim; and
and his ‫ַאמה ָֹת֖יו‬
ְ ְ‫ו‬ flared against ‫֗אמר‬
ֶ ֹ‫בּ ְָר ֵח֑ל וַ יּ‬ he slept with
maids and (20:17) ‫וַ יּ ֵֵלֽדוּ‬ Rachel and he said ‫ים‬
֙ ‫ל ִֹה‬-‫ֲה ַת ַ֤חת ֱא‬ her that
they bore Am I in God’s ‫ֶר־מנַ ֥ע‬
ָ ‫אנֹ ִֹכי ֲאשׁ‬ night.
children. stead who has ‫י־ב ֶֽטן‬
ָ ‫ִמ﬽ֵ ְ֖ך פּ ְִר‬
withheld from you (30:2)
the fruit of the
womb?!
Resolution And the ‫ וַ ֛ה פּ ַָק֥ד‬And the ‫וַ יּ ֵָע ֶ֤תר לוֹ֙ ה‬ And God ‫ל ִֹה֖ים‬-‫וַ יִּזְ כֹּ֥ר ֱא‬ And God -‫וַ יִּשׁ ְַמ֥ע ֱא‬
LORD had ‫ ֶאת־שׂ ָָר֖ה‬LORD was ‫וַ תַּ ַ֖הר‬ remembered ‫ת־ר ֵח֑ל וַ יִּשׁ ְַמ֤ע‬
ָ ‫ֶא‬ hearkened to ‫ל־ל ֑אה‬
ֵ ‫ל ִֹה֖ים ֶא‬
noted Sarah ‫אמ֑ר‬
ָ ‫ כַּ ֲֽאשֶׁ֣ר‬entreated for ‫ִר ְב ָק֥ה‬ Rachel and God ‫ל ִֹהֹים‬-‫֨יה֙ ֱא‬ ָ ‫ֵא ֶל‬ Leah and she ‫וַ תַּ ַ֛הר וַ תֵּ ֶ֥לד‬
as He had (21:1)
him and (25:21) ‫אשְׁתּֽוֹ‬ ִ hearkened to her ‫וַ יּ ְִפתַּ֖ח‬ conceived, ‫ְליַ ֲֽעקֹ֖ב בֵּ֥ן‬
said. Rebecca his and he opened her (30:22) ‫־ר ְח ָמֽהּ‬
ַ ‫ֶאת‬ and she bore (30:17) ‫מישִֽׁי‬ ִ ‫ֲח‬
wife womb. to Jacob a
conceived fifth son.
