The Giver Film Analysis

Warmup prior to watching the film. Based on the below chart, what types of things might cause a society
to become more like the totalitarian society described on the right side in red?
The types of things that would cause a society to become more like the
totalitarian society described on the right side in red are not being able to have
peace within a whole society, like not coming to terms with each other or
within an agreement. I think if there was only chaos that would call for higher
authority.

One item I would place in the column on the left is everyone should
be treated equally before the law. One thing I would place in the

Aristotle said, “the worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal.”
This quote means that when people try to make something equalized that has
unjustified meaning for it. For example racism is more normalized than it should
be because it is judgemental and cannot see past a color of a person. For others not
me, some would say gay people and straight people would be an example because
they do not support that.

What is the difference between equality before the law vs. equality of outcome.
Equality before the law Equality of outcome

The difference of equality before the law is Equality of outcome is often more used in
that each independent being must be political views or arguments and ideologies.
treated equally by the law which technically
means only to an extent under the law and
their rules.

Winston Churchill said, “The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you can see.” Why is it
important to know history? How does the erasing of history endanger our future
The erasing of history endangers our future because then people would be
uneducated on every topic which can cause more distraught events or even small
things within our conscious to happen. When people are not educated on anything
they tend to lust or want for an experience on things, if we had no history about it
that would give people more of a reason to make it occur.

In recent years some have called for the removal of Confederate statues or San Francisco changing
schools named after George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln. (See images below)
How can that be compared to what happened in The Giver?
This can be compared to what happened in the giver because they believe in the
removal of history so it can be erased by memory.

Summarize this news: Lincoln, Washington, off with their names: San Francisco makes a mockery of
history
What advice can you give to Americans to help prevent them from allowing the government from
controlling every detail of our lives?
We can all fight and voice our opinions.
