 Answer the following Avogadro’s Law problem in one whole sheet of pad paper, show your solution and box
your final answer.

1. If you need to increase the amount of gaseous substance in a 0.100L container from 2.25 moles to 6.85 moles, what
must be the volume of the new container?

V 1 n2 0.100 L(6.85mol ) 0.685

V 2= =V 2= = L=0.30 L
n1 2.25 mol 2.25
2. 4.5 moles of hydrogen gas are initially in a vessel. If temperature and pressure need to be kept constant, how many
moles should be in the vessel if it undergoes compression from 50.5 L to 10.4 L?

V 2 n1 10.4 L( 4.5 mol) 46.8

n2 = =n2= = mol=0. 93 mol
V1 50.5 L 50.5 L
3. 5.00 L of a gas is known to contain 0.965 mol. If the amount of gas is increased to 1.80 mol, what new volume will
result (at an unchanged temperature and pressure)?

V 1 n2 5.00 L(1.80 mol) 9

V 2= =V 2= = L=9.33 L
n1 0.965 mol 0.965
4. If 0.00810 mol neon gas at a particular temperature and pressure occupies a volume of 214 mL, what volume (in
liters) would 0.00684 mol neon gas occupy under the same conditions?

V 1 n2 214 mL → 0.24 L(0.00684 mol) 1.6416 x 103

V 2= =V 2= = L=202666.67 L
n1 0. 00810 mol 0.00810

5. Into what volume must a gaseous compound be stored if the number of moles is increased to twice the original?
(n1= 10 moles, V1=2.0 L)

V 1 n2 2 L(20 mol) 40
V 2= =V 2= = L=4 L
n1 10 mol 10
