2. Enumerate the major contributions of science and technology in Philippine nation-building.

Surely the Science and Technology have major contributions in Philippine nation-building, one of
those is the Socio-economic progress of our nation and its industrialization. With the help of
machineries brought by technology and the developments of new products and innovation brought by
science, the gross capita of our nation steadily increases and it helps in our improvement of status as an
independent nation. Because of Science and Technology, many agencies in Science and Technology were
established and strengthened. These agencies greatly help our way of living and keeps us in track as we
embrace the age of technology. The Science and Technology has been shaping the Philippines to
modernization like the Build, build, and build Program of our President Duterte that really pave us to
more efficient way of life and into a brighter future. The Filipinos have become more innovative in every
way, become more adaptable and globally competitive.

4. Among the indigenous communities in the Philippines, choose one. Describe its way of life and
impact of modern technology on them.

I choose our ancestors Aetas or “Ati”. It is believed that the Aetas were the first people who
arrived in the lands of our country. These people live in the hills, mountains and far from civilization.
They hunt wild animals for source of protein, and “kaingin” a method their agriculture and they used
their indigenous tools in everyday life. But now, because of technology and modernization, gradually
they coped up and adopt in today’s civilization. Here in Buenavista, Guimaras, native Aetas here in our
place were now using the Technology we were using. They now use cellphones, they have also flat led tv
screens in their homes, they ride their brand new motor cycle and comes to the “banwa” very often. The
modern technology greatly helps them in their everyday life, it change them by now adopting it and
coping up with the people around them, they now utilizes the benefits brought by science in the field of
medicine and agriculture, and attained education. Their socio economic status gradually raises but even
with these modernization, they kept and preserve their rich traditions and culture.

5. Identify Filipino values, belief system, norms, and ways of life that has either a Spanish,
American, Japanese and other foreign influence.

For me the greatest influence embarked by the Spaniards was the belief system of Roman
Catholic here in our country. They were the first one who brought the culture and practices about being
a Roman Catholic. The Americans introduce to us the American system of education, which change the
way of life and culture of the Filipino during and after the colonial period that it is generally regarded as
the "greatest contribution" of American colonialism in the Philippines. The values of being respectful of
Filipinos especially for elders comes from the influences of Chinese, we always do the “mano po” to
them. We inherited from the Japanese the norm of leaving of shoes or slippers at the door or stairs,
before entering someone’s house to pay respect to their place and owner.
