ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The satisfaction and euphoria that accompany the successful completion of any
task would be incomplete without the mention of people who made it possible,
whose constant guidance and encouragement crowned our efforts with success.
It is pleasant aspect that I now have the opportunity to express my gratitude for
all of them.

I express my sincere thanks to L&T Construction Equipment Limited, Bangalore

Works for providing me an opportunity to learn and gain some industrial
experience by observing the shop floor activities and interacting with highly
learned engineers.

The first person I would like to thank is my guide Mr. Sudarshan M S, LTCEL,
Bangalore. His understanding and personal guidance have provided the basis of
this report.

Special thanks to Mr. Ramakrishanppa Reddy in the fabrication department,

LTCEL,Bangalore.

Not to be forgotten is the guidance from Mr. Sriharsha Aithal (fabrication shop
incharge).

I also take this opportunity to thank all the officers and employees who helped
me directly or indirectly within the company for the successful completion of my
training.

PAINTING SECTION

LTCEL has an organized paint shop using air less spray painting as the means of
coating the equipment to protect it from environmental degradation as well as to
provide a superior aesthetic look. The primer paint used is the usual metal paint
mixed thoroughly with the hardener and fed the spray nozzle.

Emery sheet is used in order to have the rough surface so that the surface will get
the adhesiveness and paint will get stuck the surface properly.

10 Ton Compactor (Yellow paint)

Total Number of emery sheets used: 35

Partially used: 09
Properly used: 26

4 Ton Tandem Compactor (491) (Yellow paint)

Total Number of emery sheets used: 24

Partially used: 04
Properly used: 20
FINAL INSPECTION

After final painting the equipments are sent to the inspection, so that any
flaws or the mistakes while assembling the components can be rectified.
Common mistakes are generally uneven painting of the components, filling of
hydraulic oil is not up to the mark, wrong alignment of wheels, etc.

These kind of mistakes are rectified and the inspection goes on for 4 to 5
times until all the flaws are rectified.

After rectification the product is tested by the skilled expertized personnel

by stimulating the product in every possible type of motion, during scenario this if
any problems are found they are noted and will be immediately sent to the
inspection department for rectification.

JIGS & FIXTURES

Fixtures, being used in machine shop, are strong and rigid mechanical devices
which enable easy, quick and consistently accurate locating, supporting and
clamping, blanks against cutting tool(s) and result faster and accurate machining
with consistent quality, functional ability and interchangeability.

Jig is a fixture with an additional feature of tool guidance.

Locating – principles and methods

For accurate machining, the workpiece is to be placed and held in correct position
and orientation in the fixture (or jig) which is again appropriately located and
fixed with respect to the cutting tool and the machine tool. It has to be assured
that the blank, once fixed or clamped, does not move at all. Any solid body may
have maximum twelve degrees of freedom as indicated below.

3-2-1 PRINCIPLE
The three adjacent locating surfaces of the blank (workpiece) are resting against
3, 2 and 1 pins respectively, which prevent 9 degrees of freedom. The rest three
degrees of freedom are arrested by three external forces usually provided directly
by clamping.

1. 3 Pin are used at Bottom

It will restrict 4 Rotational Motion (X, Y Axis) and 1 Translational motion(-Z

Direction)

2. 2 Pin

It will restrict 2 Rotational Motion (Z Axis) and 1 Translational Motion (+ X

Direction)

3. 1 Pin

It will restrict 1 Translational Motion (+Y Direction)
