Meet the Stingley Family

My name is Afua Stingley. I am a single mother of

four children – Martez – 25 yrs. old, De’Marqus – 21
yrs. old, James (“Jamar”) – 15 yrs. old and Mahogani
– 10 yrs. old. I was a teenage mother at the age of 15
that graduated with honors from Pioneer High School
– Ann Arbor. Since graduation, I attended Cleary
University and have worked consistently in the
Accounting field. I am currently employed as an
Accounting Specialist at American Soy Products in
Saline, MI.
Martez and De’Marqus are both doing well and living
independently on their own. Jamar and Mahogani
both attend Lincoln Consolidated Schools and are
exceptional students. Jamar has attended Mt. Olive
Baptist Church – Pastor Garther Roberson, officiating
pastor, since around the age of five with his grand-
parents James and Ruby Washington. He is an usher
and a Laymen’s member. He is also in the choir and
dance group. He loves to dance. Mahogani attends
Strong Tower Ministries with her father. She likes
sports—soccer and basketball—and loves to sing.
I’ve always made sure my children lived in a good stable community but it has always come with a price tag that I struggled
to pay. I have been struggling to find affordable housing for a long time. I made a goal and promise that I would work to
obtain a Habitat home. It was my biggest dream to become a homeowner so I can a leave a home to my children. I reached my
goal and my dream came true when I was finally approved by Habitat for Humanity. I feel so very blessed by God for the
homeownership opportunity Habitat for Humanity is giving my family. I want single parents to know whatever the obstacles
and no matter how hard things seem, if you think positive and trust in God - anything is possible!

Afua’s new home will be Thank you to the U of M students and everyone
