Dream Classroom

The first thing you will notice when walking into my classroom is the brightness of the

room (and not in a bad way). My room has multiple windows along one wall that have blinds

and curtains that can block out the sun if it gets to be too much. My walls are not covered but

have a good amount of color on them. This is from the bulletin board, student art, word walls,

alphabet, the rules and other feel good pictures/posters.

Creating a community feel is huge. The rules we create as a class will be posted on the

wall for reminders throughout the day. The rug at the front of the room is where we will have

morning meetings and many other large group lessons. The oval shape of the rug will help with

community learning in being able to see each other as we learn and speak.

A huge thing to me is making sure the children have everything they need. One of these

things that some people forget about is food. I hope to provide a snack station. It will be filled

with allergy free foods. Learning cannot happen when you are hungry. You never know what a

child’s home life is like so making sure they know there will be something for them to eat

during class is important. Then there is the hygiene. Next to the sink there will be a station set

up with personal hygiene products such as lotion, bandaids, Kleenex, brush for hair, and pony

binders. These products can be iffy on bringing into the classroom but I will make sure the have

each family fill out an allergy form to know what can be used on their child or not. In a cabinet I

will also have more personal hygiene products that could be needed but more privately such as

tooth brushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, deodorant, and women’s pads. As I stated these are

more personal and dependent on the age of the classroom. I just want all my students to know

when they walk in this room they will have access to anything they could need or be missing at

home.

Another form of making sure children have what they need depends on materials. I will

have station set up with anything and everything they could possibly need throughout the day.

Making sure that is always fully stocked could be tough but I would make it my nightly routine

to check what the needs are and make sure everything is stocked for the day. This includes art

supplies and just general classroom supplies. Each table will also have their own supply bin on

their tables.

Placement of desks is important. Mine will be facing the students so that I never have

my back to them. Their desks are in groups of at least 4. This promotes group learning and

creating a community feel in the classroom. Their chairs will be easily movable so that no

matter where in the room I am teaching from they will be able to see me.

The library will be stocked full of books of all genres, and reading capabilities. This is

where students should be able to let loose and learn about whatever they want. The seating

will be the most comfortable in the room and the windows are there to support their reading.

I have always been a person that needs to know what is happening next and know there

are student that are the same. I will have a class schedule up towards the front of the room

near the clock. It will be just the general schedule not including every details of the lesson plan.

If students ever miss a day or mess up on a current assignment and need more, there will be a

area that I will put them all in. The directions will be with each assignment so that the student

should be able to do it on their own. The turn in bins will be on my desk so that I am able to

make sure their names are on each paper that is turned in.
