TITLE: “PROVING (OR DISPROVING) THE CONCEPTS OF LIFE”

Using your knowledge of logic as well as the different ways of proof and disproof, you are going to prove or disprove concepts you are interested in.

1. Given a certain statement, provide the inverse, the converse and the contrapositive of it.
2. Afterwards, construct the truth table of the concept you have chosen and provide the conclusion that can be drawn from it.
3. Output is to be printed on a short bond paper and oral presentation is to be done on the performance task week.
4. Refer to the given example below as to what kind of output is expected.

Sample Concept Used: Speed (Science)

Statement: If you increase the distance traveled within a lesser time, the speed will be increased. ( p ˄q)→ r
Inverse: If you decrease the distance traveled within a longer period of time, the speed will be decreased. ¬( p ˄q)→¬ r
Converse: If the speed will be increased then the distance traveled is increased within a lesser time. r →( p ˄q)
Contrapositive: If the speed is decreased, the distance traveled is decreased within a longer period of time. ¬ r → ¬( p ˄ q)

Truth Table for ( p ˄q)→ r

p q r ( p ˄q) ( p ˄q)→ r
T T T T T
T T F T T
T F T F T
T F F F T
F T T F T
F T F F T
F F T F T
F F F F T

Conclusion: Since all the values in the last column resulted into “true,” we can therefore say that the concept is indeed correct.

5. Consider the rubric below as you go about this task.
