PRESIDENT'S
NOTE
PICE remained to be in unity. And I extend my
utmost gratitude and appreciation to all our
Civil Engineers for bringing hope to our
communities.

In retrospect, 2020 has been a tough year with

the pandemic going on and other unfavorable
circumstances that arose. But on the flip side,
-
we see men and women enduring all. And we
take pride in your accomplishments.

However, our problems, such as the

recurrence of devastating disasters and
unprecedented health crises brought about by
climate change, will only persist if we don't act
now. As Engineers, we need to shift our focus
to creating resilient, safe, sustainable, and
long-lasting structures.

Let our
-- actions inspire and motivate people to
do their best work towards shaping an even
Better Normal. And again, I enjoin all of you to
come together, make steady upward progress,
realize our visions, and be living proof that it is
indeed great to be a Filipino Civil Engineer.

Mabuhay and Maraming Salamat!

PICE OFFERS VIRTUAL INTERNSHIP
With schools and some companies closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
internships were temporarily put on hold. So the PICE is taking action to close the
gaps and continue the learning for our future engineers in the New Normal setup.
PICE conceived the PICE VISMA (Virtual Internship of Students via Mentoring or
Apprenticeship) Program, an alternative learning activity to the conventional
Practicum or OJT course in the Civil Engineering curriculum.

Through this program, a PICE member can volunteer to serve as a mentor to a

maximum of 3 groups at a time (per semester or quarter) through direct
engagement with the school, faculty coordinator, and the students. The set-up will
be virtual wherein mentors may orient or discuss professional practices with the
students. This learning activity shall serve as a supplementary to what students
learn in the curriculum.

With the invitation of the PICE National for its members to take part in this noble
program of becoming a frontliner for Civil Engineering Education, many have
responded to the call. And the volunteer mentors from various chapters are as

Super Typhoon Rolly, tagged as the most powerful

storm of 2020, battered Cagayan among other
provinces. Thousands of families were affected and
left pleading for help. Heeding the call of our fellow
Filipinos, on November 17, 2020, the PICE has

Through the PICE Cagayan Chapter, families

were given housing materials. While in
some areas, solar-powered lamp posts were
installed to shed light at night.

RELIEF OPERATIONS
Catanduanes Chapter
30 December 2020

The southern portion of the Province of Catanduanes was considered as the

“ground zero” when STY “Rolly” made its first landfall on November 1, 2020 as
it crosses the archipelago particularly on Luzon islands. Catanduanes was then
isolated from the mainland due to the damages to infrastructure including
communication facilities. Many houses built from light materials to concrete
structures were destroyed which forced the victims to stay on makeshift
houses and shades. For daily wage earners, life becomes more difficult for the
market demand was literally stopped, hence they rely on rations and relief
from the government and generous private organizations and individuals.

It is in this note that we in PICE,
like other organizations did not
hesitate to launch a campaign
in raising enough funds to
extend help to the super
typhoon victims in the Province
of Catanduanes.

On December 30, 2020, through the collaborative efforts of the PICE National
Organization and the PICE Catanduanes Chapter, donated/distributed “Roofing
Package” composed of 6 pcs. – Ga #26 x 10’ Corrugated GI Sheets, Umbrella Nails and
Roof Sealant to eighty-three (83) selected recipients from several hard hit barangays
in the Province of Catanduanes. It was purposely done that the recipients reached at
least 83 families in commemoration of the 83rd Founding Anniversary of PICE.
