Sub : 58th Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2010 at Alappuzha.
The Nehru Trophy Boat Race on the Punnamada Lake, near Alappuzha, held on the
second Saturday of August every year, is the most competitive and popular of the boat races.
On the day of this fiercely fought boat race, the tranquil lake front is transformed into a sea of
humanity with an estimated 200 thousand people, including tourists from abroad, coming to
watch the event.
The origin of the ‘Nehru Trophy Boat Race’ dates back to 1952, when Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, visited the state. He chanced a trip from Kottayam to
Alappuzha, by boat. A pageantry of snake boats accompanied him on the trip. Fascinated by the
rhythm and precision of the paddlers, Nehru is said to have jumped into one of the boats. He
suggested making a boat race an annual event and promised to donate a trophy.
Later, he sent an autographed silver replica of a snake boat as a trophy, engraved
with a hand written message : “To the winners of the boat race which is a unique feature of the
community life in Travancore - Cochin”.
We have pleasure to inform you that the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be
held at the Punnamada Lake, Alappuzha on 14th of August this year. The annual water jamboree
is one of the rare events in the state that has managed to grab space in the international
tourism map and calendar. 20 “Chundans” or Snake boats will vie with each other to emerge
winner in the celebrated Boat Race. There will also be a series of Boats of smaller sizes like the
Churulan, Veppu Vallams, Oadis or Iruttukuthies
Mass media compete with each other to give wide coverage to the event. The Boat Race
is taken to the living rooms of people all over the globe through live telecast by Doordarshan.
Other channels also follow suit. Besides, All India Radio will air the running commentary.
Needless to say, Nehru Trophy Boat Race is the greatest show on water in the world.
The race is organized by the Nehru Trophy Boat Race Society chaired by the District
Collector with a well represented public committee supporting the show. In the year 2008
Government of Kerala declared the boat race as “Sports Event” and the time is not far away
when the boat race becomes an Olympic event. For more than four decades the boat race was
conducted successfully with the financial support of the esteemed organizations like yours.
This year we have planned the boat race in a fabulous manner with one week cultural festival
prior to the race. To meet the expenses of this annual water jamboree, we need people
and establishments of repute as “ Sponsors”. We appeal your good self to be a sponsor for the

SPONSORSHIP OPTIONS

Main Sponsorship options offered to sponsors of

Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2010

Title Sponsorship Entitlements : 1.5 crore

F The 58th Nehru Trophy Boat Race will be named as “XYZ Nehru Trophy Boat Race”
F All forms of communication i.e. print, television, radio, PR etc will bear the Composite event
logo i.e the naming rights of the event.
F XYZ would be entitled to 5 banners at the race venue (20 ft x 5 ft) This includes exclusive
branding at the VIP pavilion.
F XYZ would be free to construct additional branding at Alleppey town.
F Event banners with XYZ branding will feature on the hoardings of different parts of the state/
other states across the country .
F Right to minimum branding of 3 boats.
F Right to carry out promotional activities at the race course during the race interval.
F Right to host the official NTBR website in the XYZ official website and vice-versa.
F Category exclusivity for the Title Sponsor
F Min 10 VIP tickets at the event and Min 2 boat passes will be allotted to the main sponsor.

Associate Sponsor : INR 50 lakhs

F The card rate for associate sponsor is INR 50 lakhs with 4 associate sponsors as an ideal
number.
F The number of associate sponsors may vary according the size of the value generated as the
sponsorship sum.
F If associate sponsorship value is considerably huge, the associate sponsor will be a part of the
composite event logo i.e. “XYZ Nehru Trophy Boat Race in association with ABC”

Standard entitlements for an Associate Sponsor :

F All forms of communication i.e. print, television, radio, PR etc will bear the Composite event

1. Partners : INR 10 lakhs

F The card rate for the partner to the event will be INR 10 lakhs.
F The partner will be entitled to a minimal branding of one 20*5 ft banner at the venue.
F Right to brand 1 snake boat
F The name of sponsor will be displayed in the race boat till the race is over.
(Name board to be provided)
F A Sponsor banner will be displayed in the race boat (2*2 feet) at the time of procession.
(Banner to be provided)
F The name of sponsor will be announced during the race.
F One publicity boat pass will be issued to the Sponsor.
F The name of sponsor will be printed in all programme booklets published by society.
F There will be live television coverage of the entire event in National Networks and in interna-
tional networks and also full running commentary in All India Radio.
F A memento will be presented by the Society to the sponsor in the function being held during the
course of race.
F 5 VIP tickets to the event.

2. Boat Sponsors

Snake Boat

1. There are 8 A Grade Chundan Valloms (Snake Boat A Grade) which have won the
race during past years. The sponsor can select one of the above Boats on payment of
Rs. 5,00,000/- as sponsorship fee.
2. There are 8 B Grade Chundan Valloms (Snake Boat B Grade) which have won the
race during past years. The sponsor can select one of the above Boats on payment of
Rs. 3,00,000/- as sponsorship fee.

Small Boats

There are nearly 35 other kinds of race boats such as

1. Iruttukuthy - Grade A
2. Veppu - Grade A
3. Iruttukuthy - Grade B
4. Veppu - Grade B
5. Churulan
6. Vanitha Vallom

The sponsor can select any of the above A Grade Valloms (Boats) on Payment of Rs. 1,00,000/-
as sponsorship fee and B Grade Valloms (Boats) on Payment of Rs. 50,000/- as sponsorship fee.

The benefits to the Company Sponsoring a boat will be as follows.

a. The name of sponsor will be displayed in the race boat till the race is over.

d. One publicity boat pass will be issued to the Sponsor.
