Summative 3: Cancer Brochure

● Standard: Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division (mitosis) and
differentiation in producing and maintaining complex organisms
● Goal: explain and demonstrate the role of cell division in both growth and in cancer
development. Explain the impact of cancer on a person's life and the impact research
has had on the survival from cancer.
● Role: An oncologist, or cancer doctor
● Audience: Americano students, teachers, and parents
● Situation: Suppose you are an oncologist facing the task of informing and educating
a 30-year old about his or her recently diagnosed cancer. Prepare a detailed
explanation of what is taking place in this young person’s body and the impact his/her
cancer may have on his/her life.
● Product: a brochure

What information should you include:


● All of your research will be directed to one specific type or class of cancer.
○ You will summarize the information to fit within the brochure.
○ Use page 4 of the document to assist you with reducing the information to the
necessary details
○ Page 4 also includes an outline of what specific information must be found
within the project
● To make sure that (1) all content can be clearly read and (2) fonts are not distracting
to the reader, review page 3 of these directions for specific font sizes of different
levels of information

● Refer To page 2 for the rubric, and task-specific clarifications.


● Refer to page 3 for guidelines for creating a brochure. This includes the font sizes,
design, colors, etc.
● Refer to page 4 for the formatting and organization of your three-fold brochure. This
identifies what content should be included in each section of the three-fold brochure.

1. Layout:
