Materials this activity:
● Electronic device (phone, Chromebook, tablet, etc.)
How will you introduce this to your classmates?

Hello! Today, in order to prepare for the Growth & Development test, we’ll be
playing my hybrid combination of the games “Taboo” and “Heads Up!” The
Hook/Intro game requires everyone to be in teams of two where one person gives hints and
the other person guesses the words and phrases. The goal is to gain as many
points as you can for your team within 2 minutes by giving good hints and
correctly guessing the phrases! Some slides have “taboo” words that you can’t
use in your hints, while others don’t. So, good luck explaining to your partner!
How to Play:
1. Everyone is split up into teams of two with one player being the Teller
and the other the Guesser. The Teller accesses the slides in order to give
hints to the Guesser so that they can guess the words/phrases on the
Instructional slides
2. “Heads Up” slides are PURPLE and follow the rules of the game
Activities “Heads Up”: Get your partner to guess the word or phrase on the slide.
3. “Taboo” slides are YELLOW and follow the rules of the game “Taboo”:
Get your partner to guess the word or phrase WITHOUT using either of
the “taboo” words.
4. Teams have 2 minutes to get through as many of the 20 slides of Growth
& Development terms as they can.
5. If the Guesser can’t get the word/phrase or the Teller can’t describe it,
they can skip the slide, but they WON’T get a point for it.
6. They also WON’T receive a point if they use one of the taboo words on
the “Taboo” slides
7. Points are only gained if the Guesser can successfully guess the
word/phrase and if the Teller avoids all taboo words.
8. At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins!

How will you close out this game/activity?

Of course, asking how the teams did! I’m assuming if we did play this in class,
teams would have to be put into breakout rooms in order to play, so I would just
have to trust their word when they say how far they got into the slides/how
many points they got. BUT it’s less about winning and more about reviewing,
Closure Activity anyways.

Then, I would go over the full slideshow real quick just to show all of the
phrases and give quick definitions for each, link to the Google Drive folder with
all the notes, and encourage everyone to study them a bit more if they felt like
they couldn’t explain some of the more important concepts or terms (e.g. object
permanence, ZPD, all of the researchers/psychologists).
