Discussion 2: policy analysis

Option B. Analyze how the covid-19 pandemic has impacted a specific institution in the united states.

In the discussion, I will analyze how the pandemic has affected various education institutions in the
united states. The pandemic has affected the learning institutions where children are forced to remain
home and conduct their studies virtually. Statistics depict that over 55 million children in the united
states are forced to stay home. It means that various opportunities that take place in schools are lost.
For example, the group activities, team sports, and recreational options where children base their
activities on the pools and playgrounds get affected. The shutdown of many schools has various adverse
effects which affect public health and also cause economic crises. The challenge poses multiple
problems to both learners and the teachers. As the public system in the united states was not built. Also,
there were no measures to cope with the pandemic, which means that most education sectors lack the
structures to sustain effective teaching hence forcing the school shutdown to protect the learners.

The pandemic has also affected higher learning institutions which forces the universities and colleges to
shut down. Most US institutions have witched the face to face learning to online learning. The aspect
has also forced the schools to cancel the spring break trips, making the students feel discouraged. Some
of the classes which require face-to-face learning have been canceled due to the fear of the pandemic.
Some travel restrictions have been put in place to curb the movements of people. The aspect forces
some students to face challenges while online classes are going through. Some students who conduct
their studies in the united states come from china, others from India, and many other countries. The
aspect forces them to remain calm while waiting for the pandemic to decrease. It means that the
pandemic causes a long-term disruption to the higher education system across the state.

The education sector should implement some strategies to ensure that the pandemic does not disrupt
learning. First, they should maximize online learning so that to prevent delays in learning. For example,
most universities and colleges across the united states have adjusted their programs to conduct online
classes. They have adjusted the online learning programs to respond and curb the spread of the
coronavirus. For example, the Stanford University has urged the professors to stop the face top face
learning and conduct the remaining classes to online classes. Other institutions that emulated the
programs include New York’s Hofstra University, New Jersey Princeton University, and Seattle
University. Moving all classes to online learning might seem challenging, and the learning institutions
should develop robust systems which will help the professors to conduct the online classes swiftly. Thus,
the IT departments should be active to ensure smooth logistics when the professors conduct the online
classes. For example, the University of California has conducted testing of the o0nline platforms to
ensure the technology leans swiftly to lecturers and students.

Discussion 1: The mass media impact on socialization

Option B: Support an argument for how mass media positively and negatively impacts a person's
socialization process.

A large number of youths get affected as media acts as the main agents of socialization. It is because the
media surround most young adults. It is good to understand the aspect of socializing so that the top
understands the negative and positive effects in the process. Individuals acquire personal identity and
learn the societal norms through the aspect of socialization. The other part is that individuals learn
behavior, social skills, and values through media socialization. Thus, it means that media socialization
has both positive and negative effects.

One aspect of positivity is that media helps individuals learn various elements from different ethnicities
worldwide. Understanding different perspectives on diversity allow individuals to learn new things
concerning different racial ethnicities. Media connects different families living far from each other. The
different families get to feel that they are close to each other. The media content plays a significant role
in creating social bonds between families, friends, and colleagues. Media plays a more substantial role in
the aspect of identity development. For example, the adolescent discovers various individual
preferences hence gaining the element of confidence. They get to learn the various changes that take
place in them happen to everyone at that specific stage. They learn this through social media, watching
fictional characters in movies, and also in comics. The media socialization process helps in the
cultivation, motivations, and also shaping of stereotypes. The media users get to know specific content
that motivates them in life issues and helps to know some matters were just stereotypes. The content
created in media helps to satisfy various individual needs.

Media socialization also has its negative side in that there are secret co-educators in the media. Thus,
most young individuals are vulnerable to get wrong information in the media which affects their lives.
The youths are vulnerable to biased beauty standards, sexuality and pornography, drug abuse, and
political extremism's glorification. The population that gets impacted negatively are youths. Statistics
depicts that when individuals watch content related to violence, the aspect increases their appetite to
become involved in violence. The aspect opens their minds hence teaching them on the tricks to commit
crimes. In that, the youth always want’s to be accepted in the society and hence they tries to emulate in
which they will fit in the society. Thus, the media offers all that content which affects the youth lives. For
example, the ladies can see the products which makes them have light skin.in this situation, many; ladies
deals with anorexia as they wants to look that what the media displays. Thys fails to understand that
there some negatives associated with the type of content. In most situations they buy fake products
which affects their bodies. In most instances, the media can show cool things that individuals so and
this makes individuals find that it is okay ton do the deviant things.
