fractions from least to greatest and learn about fraction units as a whole.
Activity - The lesson will start by having the students in small
group. One group with the main teacher and the other
group with either the assistant or independently working
at their desk/ stations. I, as the teacher, will start the
lesson by reviewing fractions. We will spend time
reviewing fractions and parts of a whole before starting
the interactive presentation together.
- We will be using the Ordering fractions, monsters vs.
fractions presentation found on Smart Exchange.
- I will first demonstrate how the game is played and show
the students how they can drag the fractions or words to
place them in the correct location.
- The group that is with me, will break into two smaller
groups, or teams as you may. We will make this a friendly
game of competition and the winner will get Class Dojo
Points (a reward system we use in my school system).
One person from Team A will come to the board and try
to sort the fractions from least to greatest. He/she will
continue until he/she gets one incorrect. Once student
from Team A gets an answer incorrect, Team B has the
chance to play and win.
- Once we have completed the game and found a winner,
we will switch small groups and the other group will be
participating in the game on the smartboard.
