the following values be at time 0?

7. What should the maximum value of frequency be for this circuit so that the 10nF capacitor is fully
(99%) charged during positive half-period? In other words, you are required to calculate the settling
time ts for this circuit’s natural response and keeping time period of square wave 4*t s find the
respective frequency.

8. Build the circuit in Figure 4.1 on prototyping board and power it up with a square wave from
function generator using the value of frequency calculated in step 6 and other parameters from

16. Comment on the differences in the values/equation/graphs obtained for the two types of damping
in the space given below:
[3 marks]
The change in Ts value from overdamped to critically damped and the stepper ness of graph in both the
cases. critically damped is more stepper then overdamped.

4.4.2. Underdamped response

1. The circuit in Error! Reference source not found. is a series RLC circuit, like the one in Part 1.
However, the values of R, L and C are such that the response of this circuit is underdamped. Connect
this circuit on prototyping board and verify that this is an underdamped circuit using a square wave
of any suitable frequency that helps you observe the waveform. In the space below, verify the
mathematical condition for under-dampedness and also comment on the shape of the waveform:

2. Find the equation for Vc(t) using R, L and C values in Figure 4.2 and initial conditions found in
part 1 step 4. Note that with the assumption that the circuit has been in stable state for enough time,
the initial conditions for the start of the negative half-period will be the same.

applied force is equal.

3. Write a conclusion of today’s lab, i.e. briefly describe new concepts that were learned or any old
concepts that were revised/practiced and any new measurement techniques/equipment that you
were introduced to in this lab session.
[2 marks]
In this lab, I learnt about the damping response for series RLC. And learnt about the derivation
of VC for series RLC circuits and how to use cursors in the transient. Also about Ts.
