Interview
Being a nursing student, the interview that we conducted helped us in gaining more
information about being a Community Health Nurse. Our first interviewee is Nurse Mara
Fatima Lumaday, RN who lives in Alicia, Isabela and is still single. She's been a Public
Health Nurse for 2 years now. She said that everyday is the best day when she is
working and she also said that she is enjoying what she's been doing because that's
how it works for her. Nurse Mara also said that as of now, she didn't encounter worst
day yet because for her, if you love what you are doing, you cannot feel worst
experiences. She's enjoying her work as a public health nurse because it is her passion.
For her, the most difficult to handle as a PHN is health teaching or health education
because some people in the community is rejecting her when she's about to teach
something to them, it is also the common problem she usually encounter in the
community. Aside from being the common problem she encounters and difficult to
handle, health teaching is her primary duty as a PHN and her least responsibility is
monitoring. She applied her knowledge about Covid-19 to cope up to this pandemic.
She said that amidst of this pandemic, she is still enjoying her job as a PHN. "Gathering
lang ang nawala pero hindi ang pag render ng services." she stated.
Nurse Catherine Lago, RN is a 28 year-old, single who lives in Angadanan, Isabela.
She's been a Public Health Nurse for 3 years now. For her, the best experience that she
encountered was everytime she do a health teaching and her worst experience was it
was risky. The most toxic trait that she encountered was most of the people in the
community are not listening to her. She said that everytime she receive a thank you
coming from the people is more than enough for her. Her primary duty was to visit
people and her least responsibility was to give birth.
Nurse Marjorie Ann Dayao, RN is a 29 year-old, single who lives in San Manuel,
Isabela. She’s been a Public Health Nurse for 2 years now. Her best experience as a
PHN was everytime she go in a community, she feel like she is part of the family and
she is always welcomed. The worst experience was health teaching. She said that we
really need to build a rapport between us and the people in the community. Her primary
duty was to visit people and her least responsibility was to give birth.
Through this interview, we gain a lot of knowledge on how a Public health nurse
worked. They gave us an inspirational message which can serve as an motivation for
me. They said that if you really love what you are doing, you are willing to learn
everything. You'll face a lot of challenges but you will not feel it as long as you love what
you are doing. This will also serve as my motivation now that we are going through a lot
as a nursing student. Nursing is tough, everytime I'm having a hard time, I always think
why did I even enrolled in this course. Amidst of this pandemic, I know that we can get
over this. We just need to hold on to our dream. Dream of becoming a registered nurse
someday.
