Part 1: Summary
Topic sentence for summary paragraph
The film PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (COLUMBIA PICTURES, 2006) is the astounding yet true
rags-to-riches saga of a homeless father who raised and cared for his son on the mean
streets of San Francisco and went on to become a crown prince of Wall Street.

A struggling salesman takes custody of his son as he’s poised to begin a life-changing
professional endeavor.

At the early age of twenty, Milwaukee native Chris Gardner, who was just released from the
Navy, arrived in San Francisco to pursue a promising career in medicine. He has invested in
a device known as a “Bone Density scanner”. However, they don’t sell as they are
marginally better than the current technology at a much higher price.as he tries to figure
out how to sell them, his wife leaves him, loses his house, his bank account and credit
cards.

Forced to live out in the streets with his son, Gardner is now desperate to find a steady job.

He takes on a job as a stockbroker, but before he can receive pay, he needs to through six
months of training and to sell his device.

Never giving in to despair, Gardner makes an astonishing transformation from being part of
the city’s invisible to being a powerful player in its financial district.

More than a memoir of Gardner's financial success, this is the story of a man who breaks his
own family's cycle of men abandoning their children. A story that appeals to the very
essence of the American Dream.

Part 2: Reaction
Topic sentence for first reaction paragraph
My reaction to this movie is the superb efforts exerted by Chris Gardner making both ends
meet during the time when he was struggling to find food and shelter for him and his son.

Life is a struggle for single father Chris Gardner played by Will Smith, having been evicted
from their apartment, he and his young son played by Jaden Smith, find themselves alone
with no place to go. Even though Chris eventually lands a job as an intern at a prestigious
brokerage firm, the position pays no money as he must endure a six months training and
sell his products to stay afloat.

The pair must live in shelters and endure many hardships, but Chris refuses to give in to
despair as he struggles to create a better life for himself and his son.

Despite the fleeting ups and frightening downs of Chris Gardner plagued by some bad luck,
a few stupid moves, Chris holds firm to his dignity, resolve, faith, love and independence.
His optimism sweeps through the film like a searchlight, scattering clouds and dark thoughts
to the wind.
Topic sentence for second reaction paragraph
Another big topic of the film is the poverty which appears in many different aspects in the
movie. At first you see the family which is badly influenced by the poverty. The poverty
ruins the atmosphere of the family. Chris and Linda are fighting about money the whole
time and are not able to live without counting on every dollar. As a result, Linda is full of
economic fears and decides to leave the family.

Despite their situation in life, Chris Gardner was constantly seeking his dream. This dream
backed him up to get through even if when he was at his worst. Because he believed, his
efforts would pay-off one day and everything would turn for the better.

Topic sentence for third reaction paragraph

If you are struggling; wandering and looking for success; want to earn better livelihood for
your loved ones; want to have a good job; continuously in search of real-life motivation and
inspiration; not finding happiness in life, then this true story-based movie will give you a ray
of hope in the darkest times of your life.

"Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something. ...You got a dream, you gotta
protect it... If you want something, go get it. Period."

Concluding paragraph
Pursuit of Happyness is a movie based on the life of the millionaire Christopher Gardner. It
shows the struggles that Chris Gardner faces while trying to create a better life for himself
and his son.

One of the main themes in the movie is determination. Determination is that you can
achieve anything you want if you try hard enough and don't give up even when times are
hard.

You can see this all through the movie when Chris Gardner runs from place to place just to
be there on time. Another time is when Chris tells his son to not let anyone ever tell him
that he can’t do something.

Not giving up. Most people in the position of Chris Gardner would just give up, but Chris
shows that you can come out of being homeless, unsuccessful, and unhappy and become
exactly the opposite. Not only did Chris Gardner come out of being homeless but he also
became a self multi-millionaire. He did all of this while being a single dad.

Survival is the most important thing for humanity. Chris Gardner was unemployed and he
would sell bone density scanners as a living, having no steady job they were often forced to
spend night in motels, homeless shelters and even subway bathrooms.
