General Guidelines
1. Participants are open to the public from any range, nationality and
institutions.
2. The competition is divided into 3 Rounds. The preliminary round will be
posted on IGTV and for the Main Round also Final Round will be conducted
Live in Zoom.
3. Participants must post the Video according to rules that are written below,
failing to complete may result in Deduction or absence in scoring.
4. Participants will receive the Zoom link one day before the D-Day of the main
round to the WhatsApp or Line Group.
5. For the Finals participants will be invited to a new group and later be sent all
of the necessary materials including Zoom Link.
6. In the Live Round Participants are allowed to use Laptop, Computer with
Camera or Mobile Phone (not recommended) as a media to participate in the
event.
7. Participants are responsible to ensure the quality of their internet connection
and the conduciveness of their area during the live rounds, therefore
suggesting to have a backup internet connection such as mobile data or
other Wi-Fi connection.
8. Before each participant starts, there will be a setting check for maximum of
10 seconds to ensure participants’ mic and camera are functional.
9. If the participants encounter technical issues such as lagging or disconnection
from the Zoom Meeting, participants must contact the Committees to inform.
10. The participants must join the determined zoom room provided by the
committee.
11. The display name on the zoom must be (Chamber_Number_Fullname
Institution) for Main Round and (Number_Fullname_Institution) for Final
Round.

12. The participants must wear semi-formal to formal clothing during the
competition.
13. The participants must show the upper half of their body through the camera
when performing.
14. The participants must ensure their audio to be clear and without any audio
disturbance during performance.
15. Reading notes or scripts are not allowed during performance.
16. Committee will provide a timer for the Main and Final Round.
17. Undertime or Overtime will result in Deduction of Score.
18. The participants must not showcase any disturbance to respect other
participants.

PRELIMINARY ROUND

A. For the first round, there is no specific topic. However, the main theme of this
round is “Our Right Matters”. In line with this theme, participants must make
a speech that aims to empower people, using their speeches.
B. The speech must be 2-4 minutes long. Durations less than or more than this
specified criteria will result in a points deduction.
C. The First Round participant must post their video to their own personal Instagram
account (IGTV) before June 24, 2021 to be eligible for competition.
D. Speech video link (from the IGTV Post) must be copied to the form inside the
link that has been given in the Speech Competition Package Email.
E. Your preliminary video will be scored.
F. Videos must be posted with the hashtag #wandervoice #wvspeechcomp
#ourrightmatters, and tag @wander.voice
G. Videos must be posted on Instagram via IGTV.
H. Speeches that have been edited will not be accepted.
I. Note: Instagram must be Public, Private Account WILL NOT BE SCORED

MAIN ROUND

A. The Main Round will be conducted in Zoom Conference


B. The Topic for the Main Round:
-Racial Discrimination
-Hate Crime
-Gender Violence
-Child Marriage
-Cyber Bully
C. Participants must attend on time.
D. In the zoom meeting participants have to rename their display name with the
format: (Chamber_Number_Fullname_Institution).
E. The Speaker will have to wait for their turn according to their predetermined
number in the waiting room.
F. Participants will have to return to the main room after they have performed.
G. The duration of the speech is 5-7 minutes. Time signal : Timer will be shown.
H. Participants will be disqualified if he/she does not show up after being called
3 times.
I. Participants who committed the act of cheating will be given deduction in points
and if further violation happens, the committee will disqualify the participant.
J. The score of the Preliminary Round will be accumulated with the Main Round
as the valuation to pass to the Final Round.
K. The best 12 participants will be taken to advance to the Final round.

SUBSTANTIVE GUIDELINES

All speeches must be in full English. Quotes or phrases in languages other


than English are allowed, but contestants must provide a direct translation,
and the use of this must be limited to 1-2 sentences so as to not distract the
overall speech. Contestants must avoid statements which might be construed as
slanderous, embarrassing, or containing gender, cultural, or racial stereotypes
are unsuitable for a public speaking competition

For the Finalist

Contestants must prepare their own speeches which must be substantially


original and certified in the application form. Any quoted/sources material must
be so identified during the speech presentation. Plagiarism if found or notified
to the judges by any contestant may lead to disqualification. Contestants are
required to submit their written speech script to:

However, their speeches will be assessed based on the video, and this
written script will not be part of the assessment criteria. Contestants who wish to
receive assessment for their initial script may contact the judges at the end of the
competition.

TECHNICAL GUIDELINES

Platform
1. Participants must already have the Zoom Application for the Live Rounds

Audio
1. The audio must be clear and without echo, static or other background
/white noise.
2. Contestants may use headphones/earphones to ensure clearer audio.

Camera
1. The camera must record in high definition/quality.
2. Only single-camera setup is permitted; use of multiple camera angles is
not allowed.
3. The camera must be placed on a tripod to maintain stability and prevent
unwanted movement. Contestants should be hands-free of their recording
device.
4. The camera must have an unobstructed, in-focus view of the contestants.
5. The entire speaking area must be visible throughout the recording.

Lighting
1. The speaking area must be fully lit.
2. The speaker’s facial expressions must be visible throughout the speech.
3. The video should not be too bright or dark.

Video Recording (Preliminary Round)


1. The duration of the video is 2-4 minutes.
2. The recording may not be edited in any way, such as by adding graphics,
images, or anything that does not meet the requirements, except for
speech titles.
3. Videos must be recorded in ONE TAKE. The use of scene cuts, transitions,
and/or voice overs are not allowed.
4. The use of physical props are allowed (ex. Posters or visual aids). Digital
aids such as showing screens, are not allowed.
5. Contestants may choose to have their full body in frame, or just chest
level. Contestants should not record their speech in “selfie”-mode.
6. Contestants are requested to dress neatly and wear semi-formal attire in
their video.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Performance (Max. Score 10 per category– 50%)

>Style of Delivery (10 points): This component assesses participants’


expression through gestures.
>Intonation (10 points): This component assesses the compatibility between
word / syllable emphasis with the provision of intonation in English.
>Articulation (10 points): This component assesses the eloquence of the
word pronunciation.
>Pronunciation (10 points): This component assesses the eloquence of
vowels, consonants, and diphthongs in accordance with the provisions in
English.

Content (Max. Score 10 per category – 50%)

>Relevance (10 points): This component assesses the suitability of the


content of the speech with the: theme of the speech (first round) / topic of
the speech (final round)
>Achievement of Purpose (10 points): This component assesses how well
the contestant is able to impact their audience
>Coherence of Ideas (10 points): This component assesses the substance,
structure, and logical flow of the speech
>Originality (10 points): This component assesses the uniqueness of the
ideas presented in the speech

>Runner Up: IDR 2.000.000 or US $33
>Second Runner Up: IDR 1.000.000 or US $66

Novice Category:
>Champion of Novice Category: free bronze membership IDR 500.000 or
US $35 at Global Millennial Group
>1st Runner Up of Novice Category: free bronze membership IDR 500.000
or US $35 at Global Millennial Group
>2nd Runner Up of Novice Category: free bronze membership IDR 500.000
or US $35 at Global Millennial Group

All contestants may request personal feedback from the judges after the
competition. The decision of the judge cannot be contested.
