Title : A Large-Sample Test for the Difference between Two
Population Proportions
Overview
In this Module we are going to discuss a large-sample test for the difference between
two population proportions. When the sample are large enough that the distributions of the
sample
proportions p̂1 and p̂2 are both approximated well by a normal distribution, the difference
between the two sample proportions is also approximately, normally distributed and this
gives rise to test for equality of two populations proportions based on the standard
normal distribution.
Situation I - Ho : p1 − p2 = 0
H1 : p1 − p2 ≠ 0
Situation II - Ho : p1 − p2 ≤ 0
H1 : p1 − p2 > 0
H o : p 1 − p2 ≥ 0
H1 : p1 − p2 < 0
Situation III- Ho : p1 − p2 ≤ 0
H1 : p1 − p2 > 0
