task to show your understanding of the text.

TEXT 1 Recycling School Supplies

Schools produce lots of waste. But teachers and students can work together to reduce the amount of waste.
Recycling at school is good for the environment and can be a lot of fun. It can also help the country become
greener.

Here are some school supplies that can be recycled:

Paper Metal Plastic

folders

To help recycle, the school can give different bins for the different materials.
Then, these materials can be sent away to be recycled. Students can reuse
their school supplies for many years before recycling them. This will also
help to reduce school waste.

TEXT 2 Let’s Go Back to School

In September, two cousins, Mohammed and Abdullah, were starting Grade 8. They decided to go shopping for
new school supplies together.

For their Grade 8 maths class, they would need a calculator, a ruler and a compass. For their other classes,
they would need the same supplies as they used in Grade 7.

On Thursday, Mohammed and Abdullah made a list of all the supplies they would need to buy for Grade 8.
Mohammed and Abdullah wanted to buy math supplies and new pencils, pens, erasers and a pencil case.

On Friday morning, Mohammed read an article in the school newspaper about recycling school supplies. He
called Abdullah to talk about the article.

‘‘I think we should reuse the school supplies we used last year,’’ Mohammed said. Abdullah agreed.

“What about the supplies for maths?” asked Mohammed.

“I have an idea!” said Abdullah.

Mohammed and Abdullah decided to use the math supplies that belonged
to Abdullah’s older brother and sister in Grade 8. This was a great way to
help the environment.
