FORM 2. PERSONAL STATEMENT
Be it subsistence or commercial agriculture, I was bound to be in this ecosystem since many years before my
divulgence at biological science. However, after four years of undergraduate study in Agriculture, my quench
to get enrolled in the most pragmatic and down-to-earth major and helping people tackle mundane problems
seems to be half fulfilled as I have not yet mastered the particular field. During these periods, I got birds eye
view in every subject related to soil, ecosystem, plant mechanism and so on. These explorations have
certainly motivated me to opt for more innovations and opportunities available in this field- to reduce the
challenges of plant production both sustainably and economically. I sincerely believe that pursuing Masters
in Plant Science at Korean Universities at this juncture of my life would be a utopian step for my future since
many research questions in this field are yet to be addressed although agriculture being a day-to-day science.
I have recently completed my undergraduate study from Agriculture and Forestry University, Nepal with
3.6/4 GPA. The first year of my study was all the fundamentals; plant physiology, biochemistry, soil science,
crop science and more. However, the introduction of advance subjects like Plant Pathology, Entomology,
Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Soil Physics and genesis, and Agribusiness surged my interest to
pursue a career as a researcher in biological field. I was always looking forward to the variations within
subjects in each semester with which we could unfold the different aspects of “Agriculture”. With every
subject came the practical lessons and finally the six months long internship at Prime Minister Agriculture
and Modernization Project where I worked under the supervision of senior agriculture officer Mr. Meghnath
Timilsina, also a plant protection scholar who has already served for more than 30 years in this field helped
me learn a lot during those months. During this tenure, I published my Bachelor’s thesis entitled “Effect of
Crop Establishment Methods on Yield and Yield Attributes of Spring Rice at Khairahani, Chitwan, Nepal”.
Moreover, he entrusted me as the coordinator of soil testing programs, Integrated Pest Management
Trainings and plant clinics. Installing cue lures, preparing the pesticide concentrations and researching the
management practices for different crops which we learnt during our course studies and restricted laboratory
practices were all explored within those periods. As a hackneyed trite, "little knowledge is dangerous",
knowing basics will not help me attest the findings I want to achieve in this field of study. Contributing in the
field of plant science, certainly means enhancing the productivity and attenuating the loss by several folds
thus aiding in the food security-my ultimate goal. Apart from the academic portfolio different extra-
curricular activities like being the delegate of Denmark at C-MUN, general member of AMNESTY,
enumerator at UN Volunteers, top 10 idea pitcher at REFT Local Heroes, Youth and Sports Coordinator at
Leo Club of Bharatpur Chautari and Secretary at SOS Alumni Association and teacher at Xavier’s Institute
were noteworthy where my contributions were eminent in the society and also as a Green fellow at
Himalayan Climate Initiative, non-profit organization carrying out the project specifically “Nursery House
for Local and Seasonal Crops and Seed Bank Establishment” collaborated with Bharatpur Metropolitan and
also IPM Trainee, I was able to contribute as general agriculturist. During my recent internship at Phytocare
International, I learnt basics of isolation, culturing and formulation of antagonist fungi, Trichoderma viride
and Beauveria bassiana and extraction and concentration adjustment of active Neem based biopesticides. As
a trainer in Mushroom Cultivation Practices in Ramechhap, Nepal I got to learn more about fungal ecology.

FORM 3. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Contributing in the field of plant science, certainly means enhancing the productivity and attenuating the loss
by several folds thus aiding in the food security-my ultimate goal. Why crop protection? When population is
growing exponentially and food crops in arithmetic proportion, neither less productivity nor loss through
pathogens or insects is affordable. With more loss, more land is needed for huge production destroying the
forest areas for agricultural land, also the rise in price due to scarcity of food in the market adds to poverty.
Crop protection -being the potential field of plant science, it determines not only the occurrence and
epidemiology of pathogens and pathogenicity but also the curative measures to increase crop production
efficiently and contribute to food security. Also, reducing the use of chemical pesticides and encouraging the
use of beneficial pathogens to contribute for the well beings of other living creatures is what I am looking
forward to. Moreover, awaring the farmers about the ecology of pest-plant interaction and pathogen-plant
symbiosis in the farming system reducing the use of chemical pesticides usage and encouraging the use of
beneficial microbes to contribute for the well beings of other living creatures is what I am looking forward
to. Moreover, resurgence of chemical resistant secondary pests is more unbearable. Pollination is the boon
for crop production but the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides have hit the pollinators to rock-bottom
moments. These factors have incited me to pursue an advanced study in crop protection and their efficacy.
Apart from the academic portfolio different extra- curricular activities like being the delegate of Denmark at
C-MUN, general member of AMNESTY, enumerator at UN Volunteers, top 10 idea pitcher at REFT Local
Heroes, Youth and Sports Coordinator at Leo Club of Bharatpur Chautari and Secretary at SOS Alumni

Practices in Ramechhap, Nepal I got to learn more about fungal ecology. The principal reason for my interest
to pursue Masters abroad is competitive opportunity, laboratory facilities, innovations and academic
excellence. Korean Universities has always been the top research institute for agricultural enthusiast. Not
only does it focus on student’s academic excellence but also the achievement of sustainable environment
through the results they got from the project the particular student carried out. It enhances the skills of plant
systematics and genomics which is great asset while working as an operators or specialists to agricultural
firms or industries in future. During my internship at governmental office, farmers eagerness towards plant
clinics drove my attention to this very field. Working alongside the supervisors from this university, I would
be able to enhance my skills to help farmers being a consultant. Getting in lab experience with eminent
scholars and learning plant-pest interactions, both pathogen-pathogen and pathogen-host interactions would
certainly broaden my field of knowledge and skills. I am seeking out for scholarships for international
students to aid my financial rift during my stay at Korea. I look forward to a long and fruitful association
with Korean Universities.
Language Study o Study plans to improve foreign languages(Korean, English, etc) required for taking a
Plan degree course BEFORE and AFTER you come to Korea.
“Multilinguists are more diverse and creative than monolinguists” is what I believe in. With this attitude I have
been learning few verses in few different languages. Even though poor expresser through writings, one who
takes a single step to learn few words shows their desire to globalize, their desire to understand others. In my
case, as per the English language, I have been studying in the English medium school from the beginning of my
student life although Nepali being my native language and also have already taken IELTS examination where
my proficiency was found satisfying. Apart from my formal study, I am quite into English series, songs and
movies; same goes for Korean dramas as well. Even though I have very poor dialect and written proficiency on
Korean, I understand few words/verses since I have been watching dramas with English subtitle for more than a
decade now. Moreover, I am enthusiastic about Korean culture, songs and technological advancement as a
whole. So, if I am fortunate enough with this scholarship, even before getting to Korea, I would resume my
Duolingo class and after getting to Korea, I have whole year to revise my Korean linguist. While the world is
crazy over BTS, I have fanatic interest to pursue my higher education there alongside the eminent scholars
working under sophisticated technologies.
