The CDS 08 (Central Delivery System) is a system intended for the delivery of bicarbonate and acid
concentrates from tanks. The concentrates are delivered from the tanks to the individual media supply
centers (MSC) via a ring main. The dialysis systems use the concentrates to prepare the dialysate.
Two tanks, which are monitored by an internal or external tank-empty detector and activated accordingly
by the CDS 08, can be connected to each type of concentrate.
The CDS 08 is operated in the immediate vicinity of the concentrate containers outside the treatment
rooms.
The CDS 08 may only be operated under the specified operating conditions.
The control unit must be protected against humidity (splash water, condensation water, etc.) and
moisture.
In the event of a defect of the control unit, the type of problem (effect of the malfunction) should be
recorded before dismantling the system. A system that has been dismantled can only be repaired if a
detailed description of the problem is available.
The device may only be operated by persons who have been instructed on the proper operation and
handling of the unit.
Caution
Disconnect the power plug before opening the system.
Caution
Do not confuse bicarbonate concentrate with acid concentrate.
Strong chemical reactions would lead to precipitation in the tubing,
which, in turn, would become obstructed.
When connecting, reconnecting or replacing the containers always disinfect the connectors.
Avoid contamination of the connectors caused by contact with skin or non-sterile objects.
The CDS 08 must be disinfected by authorized personnel in accordance with the disinfection
specifications.
Caution
Before the start-up of the CDS 08 take appropriate measures to
verify that there is no disinfectant in the ring main.
When adding the disinfectant, care must be taken not to spill any disinfectant concentrate. To prevent
burns these fluids must always be handled with care:
– Use rubber gloves to avoid contact of the disinfectant with the skin.
– Wear goggles when working with acidic substances!
Note
The system may only be disinfected after consulting the
manufacturer of the unit or by personnel authorized by the
manufacturer.
Caution
Observe the safety precautions of the disinfectant used!
In the event of contact with acid:
– Eye:
Immediately flush with gently flowing water for 15 minutes.
– Skin:
Use soap under flowing water for neutralisation.
– Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting, but have victim drink plenty of still water.
Improper handling of the CDS 08 may cause leakage. Uncontrolled leakage of fluid may result in damage
to equipment, installations and buildings.
– Tubings must be protected against possible mechanical damage.
– Regular visual inspection of all tubings, connectors and piping containing fluid and of the CDS 08 is
required to avoid damage caused by leaking fluid.
The applicable ESD precautions (EN 1000 1.5/1) must be observed in the event of all technical
interventions in the system.

The central delivery system CDS 08 is a system for the delivery of dialysis concentrates and is intended
for medical use only.
The CDS 08 is provided with two tank ports each of which is controlled by a solenoid valve. Both the
temperature and the conductivity of the fluid are determined by a sensor. Two parallel gear pumps deliver
the fluid to the ring inlet and ultrafilter unit via a pressure sensor. The ultrafilter unit prevents particles,
bacteria, endotoxins and air from entering the ring main.
The microprocessor control permits fully automatic monitoring and control of the central delivery system
CDS 08.
All controls and status indicators required to operate the system are located on the front of the CDS 08.
The Power ON/OFF switch is located on the rear of the CDS 08.
The dialysis concentrate is delivered from the connected container to the conductivity/temperature sensor
CD/T via the concentrate inlet valve V1 or V2. Two parallel gear pumps deliver the fluid to the ultrafilter
unit via the pressure sensor P.
The dialysis concentrate flows through two parallel ultrafilters. The ultrafilters prevent germs and bacteria
from entering the ring main and purge air from the system.
After having passed the ultrafilter unit, the dialysis concentrate is pumped via the ring main to the
connectors of the media supply centers (MSC).
The pressure holding valve R3 of the ring main is located in the ultrafilter unit at the end of the system. It
is adjusted manually during the installation of each system. The dialysis concentrate returns from the
pressure holding valve R3 of the ring main via the circulation valve V5 and the conductivity/temperature
sensor CD/T to the feed line of the pumps.
Opening the deaeration valve V3 purges all air from the system.
Legend:
1.3.4 Valves
V1 – Concentrate inlet The concentrate inlet valve V1 for tank 1 is open if tank 1 is the currently
valve for tank 1 selected tank.
It is possible to activate the tanks manually or by automatic tank
swapping.
V2 – Concentrate inlet The concentrate inlet valve V2 for tank 2 is open if tank 2 is the currently
valve for tank 2 selected tank.
It is possible to activate the tanks manually or by automatic tank
swapping.
V3 – Deaeration valve The deaeration valve V3 is open in the programs during the deaeration
phase and purges any air present from the system.
V4 – Drain valve The drain valve V4 is open during the drain phase and diverts fluid
directly to the drain.
V5 – Circulation valve The circulation valve V5 is open during the circulation phase and diverts
the dialysis concentrate in the return line directly to the feed line of the
pumps.
R1 – Pump 1 check valve The pump 1 check valve R1 prevents fluid from flowing back to pump 1.
R2 – Pump 2 check valve The pump 2 check valve R2 prevents fluid from flowing back to pump 2.
R3 – Pressure holding The adjustable pressure holding valve R3 of the ring main is used to
valve of ring main generate the correct back pressure in the concentrate ring main
required by the dialysis machines.
1.3.5 Sensors
P – Pressure sensor The pressure sensor P is used to measure the operating pressure of the
dialysis concentrate downstream of the pumps. Based on the
programmed theoretical values, the operating pressure of the system is
regulated by the delivery capacity of the gear pumps.
The pressure sensor P has no function in the deaeration program
phase.
Start-up of the CDS 08 must only be performed by technicians authorized by Fresenius Medical Care.

The remote control indicator is provided for the indication and detection of possible malfunctions from a
distance, the indication of operating conditions and for switching between the STANDBY and SUPPLY
programs when the system is connected.
The STANDBY and SUPPLY LEDs indicate the current program mode. The program key P is used to
switch between the programs. When pressing the key, the selected program will be displayed flashing and
will be activated after 2 seconds.
The indicators with the water/aggregate symbols alert the operator to a conductivity alarm and a
malfunction of the CDS 08.
– Green status indicator: Operation
– Yellow status indicator: Warning/information
– Red status indicator: Alarm
The audible alarm can be suppressed by pressing the P key for 1 minute. The remote control indicator is
connected to the sub D9 connector on the rear of the CDS 08.
The external tank sensors are provided for the detection of empty tanks. Depending on the measured
conductivity a signal is transmitted to the CDS 08 via the traffic light.
External tank sensors are used when the length of the tubes between the connected tanks and the
CDS 08 exceeds 5 meters. They detect an empty tank earlier than internal tank sensors, thus permitting
shorter swapping/rinsing times.
O Traffic light
The traffic light visually indicates the fluid level of two connected tanks filled with the same type of
concentrate. When the tank is empty a signal will be transmitted to the CDS 08. This signal will trigger
tank swapping or an alarm message if both tanks are empty.
The ultrafilter unit prevents particles, bacteria, endotoxins and air from entering the ring main. The system
is provided with either two or three filter units.
The integrated pressure holding valve R3 of the ring main is used to adjust the fluid pressure in the ring
return line.

Note
In the event of a power failure the entered data and settings will be
retained in the memory. The system will be deaerated for a short time
in the SUPPLY program after a power failure.
The STANDBY, SUPPLY, RINSE, FILL, DISINFECTION and PRE-VENTILATION programs are the
operating programs of the CDS 08.
2.3.1 STANDBY
If no dialysis is performed, the CDS 08 must be made ready for operation in the STANDBY program. This
program is used to circulate the fluid in the entire ring main automatically for a short time at hour intervals.
2.3.2 SUPPLY
The SUPPLY program is used to supply the connected media supply centers with the necessary
concentrate. The message SUPPLY (circ.) will be displayed.
The SUPPLY program is used to check the tank level and readjust the set operating pressure.
The VENTILATE/DRAIN program is activated every hour to prevent contamination of the ring main.
Pressing the P key will terminate the SUPPLY program. Pressing the P key once again will additionally
deaerate the ultrafilter (deaeration time = 10 s).
After dialysis use the P key of the SUPPLY program to switch to the STANDBY program.
2.3.3 RINSE
The RINSE program is used to rinse the ring main with permeate before changing the type of concentrate.
Both tank connectors are connected to a permeate tank to rinse the ring main. The CDS 08 collects
permeate alternately from tank 1 or 2. After the set drain time has elapsed, the CDS 08 checks the
conductivity at the ring outlet. If this value falls below 2 mS/cm, the RINSE program will be terminated.
The fluid will be rinsed from the ring main and diverted to the drain.
2.3.4 FILL
The FILL program is used to fill the entire system for the first time.
The CDS 08 alternately collects the corresponding concentrate via both tank feed lines, and checks the
conductivity during this phase. If the conductivity exceeds 2 mS/cm, the FILL program will be terminated.
The fluid will be rinsed from the ring main and diverted to the drain.
2.3.5 DISINFECTION
Note
Disinfection may only be performed by authorized personnel or
trained technicians.
2.3.6 PRE-VENTILATION
The PRE-VENTILATION program allows to perform the first deaeration phase at an earlier stage during
a dialysis-free time. The CDS 08 memorizes this and will deaerate only for the second deaeration time
during the next automatic tank swapping.
If an empty tank is detected during dialysis, swapping to the other tank takes place. The red traffic light
indicator of the empty tank is on.
On completion of dialysis the empty tank will be replaced. The red traffic light indicator is still illuminated.
After completion of dialysis the SUPPLY program will be aborted. The PRE-VENTILATION must now be
started to switch the traffic light indicator from red to green.
The CDS 08 deaerates the new-connected tank until the deaeration time has elapsed and switches to the
STANDBY program.
If there is a tank swapping during dialysis, deaeration takes place only for the set deaeration time.
Caution
Disinfection and preservation of the CDS 08 must only be performed
by technicians authorized by Fresenius Medical Care.
Disinfection and preservation of the CDS 08 must be performed in
accordance with the applicable disinfection and preservation
regulation.
When adding the disinfectant, care must be taken not to spill any
disinfectant concentrate. To prevent burns these fluids must always be
handled with care:
– Use rubber gloves to avoid contact of the disinfectant with the skin.
– Wear goggles when working with acidic substances!
Note
The system may only be disinfected after consulting the
manufacturer of the unit or by personnel authorized by the
manufacturer.
Caution
Observe the safety precautions of the disinfectant used!
In the event of contact with acid:
– Eye:
Immediately flush with gently flowing water for 15 minutes.
– Skin:
Use soap under flowing water for neutralisation.
Ingestion:
Do not induce vomiting, but have victim drink plenty of still water.
4 ERROR MESSAGES
Note
In the event of an error, the CDS 08 will display the corresponding
error message.

6.1.1 Concentrate
Define the fluid to be pumped into the connected ring main using the Concentrate menu item.
Whilst the FILL and SUPPLY programs are in progress, the CDS 08 checks at the end of the deaeration
phase whether the connected concentrate is identical to the concentrate preset in the Concentrate menu.
The concentrate check prevents any non-preset concentrate from entering the ring main.
O Possible settings
6.1.2 Tank
The menu option Tank can be used to skip automatic tank swapping and initiate manual tank swapping
from tank 1 to tank 2 and vice versa. This however, can be done only when the CDS 08 is in the
STANDBY program.
The menu option Pressure (reg.) can be used to set the CDS 08 output pressure for pressure regulation.
This parameter sets the pressure at the user points of the ring main.
In the SUPPLY, RINSE, FILL, and DISINFECTION (cold) programs, pressure control is active in the
Drain and Circulation phases.
No function
The ventilation time, i.e. the dearation time is composed of the time interval required to deaerate the line
running from the tank to the CDS 08 and an additional deaeration time for deaerating the ultrafilter:
The deaeration time does not have any effect on the brief deaeration during the SUPPLY program which
can be performed every hour, nor on the Pre-ventilation which can also be performed. The default
deaeration time has been set to 10 seconds in the settings menu.
The drain time parameter is required in the RINSE and FILL programs during the draining phase. It is
dependent on the length and the cross-section of the ring main and the number of user points in the ring
main. While the drain time is elapsing, the entire contents of the ring main are replaced by a new fluid.
The drain time must be set on the basis of empirical values.
The disinfection time parameter is required in the DISINFECTION program during the circulation phase;
it defines the time of exposure to the disinfectant. During the hot rinse phase, where a temperature of 85
°C is to be reached at the end of the ring main, the disinfection time depends on the length of the ring main
and the number of user points in the ring main.
The menu option Tube length is provided to enter the length of the tube running from the tank via the
external tank sensor to the CDS 08. The tube length parameter is taken to calculate the first phase of the
deaeration time (5 sec/m).
Note
During the deaeration phase, the CD/T conductivity and temperature
sensor is not activated.
In order to set specific operating parameters, the DIP switch IC 23, Pos. 2 / P.C.B. LP 795, must be reset.
This will enable the menu option Edit system parameters in the settings menu.
Caution
System parameters may only be changed by technicians authorized
and trained by Fresenius Medical Care.
The CDS 08 detects the empty tank and switches to the alarm position.
The internal tank swapping unit is used for systems where the distance between the CDS 08 and the
storage tanks is very short (< 5m).
The internal tank swapping unit is provided with three redundant procedures for detecting an empty tank.
Monitoring of the pump pressure, the pump speed and the conductivity. As soon as certain limits are
exceeded or fallen below, an empty tank is detected; if necessary, the system will switch to the other tank.
The limits for the pressure drop and the pump voltage are preset. The conductivity limit must be set in the
System parameters menu.
Although the internal tank swapping unit is used, a tank level indicator can be connected; the signals of
the external tank swapping unit will then however, not be detected.
The external tank swapping unit consists of two external tank sensors (conductivity sensors detecting
whether the tanks are empty or not empty) and a controller with a signal traffic light.
The signal traffic light indicates the tank levels "not empty" (green) and "empty" (red).
The controller transfers the current tank level to the CDS 08. The supply line of the traffic light controller
must be connected to the tank level connector on the rear of the CDS 08.
The system parameter Supply Mode can be used to set the type of ring main installed.
The system parameter Pump speed can be used to define the pump speed during deaeration. This set
value only controls the operating speed of the pump during the deaeration of the ultrafilter.
6.2.5 Language
The system parameter Language can be used to set the display software to the following languages:
German, English, French, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
6.2.6 Brightness
Note
If no key is pressed for a prolonged time, the display brightness is
automatically reduced to 25 %. If a key is then pressed , the
messages are again displayed with the set brightness.
6.2.7 KI / KP
The pumps are pressure-controlled by means of a PI controller. The two system parameters KI and KP
are used to set the control characteristics. These two parameters effect the rate at which the gear pumps
respond to a change in pressure in the ring main.
The system parameter Tank SWCondBic can be used to set the bicarbonate conductivity limit at which
the interal tank-empty detector of the CDS 08 detects an empty tank.
The system parameter Tank SWCondACID can be used to set the acid concentrate conductivity limit at
which the interal tank-empty detector of the CDS 08 detects an empty tank.
It is not possible to detect permeate or disinfectant if conductivity sensors are used. The CDS 08 would
always detect an empty tank in the corresponding program. The setting for this system parameter is
therefore fixed to No. The CDS 08 automatically switches back to the internal tank-empty detector,
suppressing the detection of an empty tank by the conductivity sensors in this phase.
6.2.11 Masch.hour
The system parameter Masch.hour can be used to display the operating hours of the CDS 08.
The system parameter Circulation pause is used to set the time period between the individual circulation
phases. Circulation is only performed in the STANDBY program.
The system parameter Circulation time is used to set the duration of circulation. Circulation is only
performed in the STANDBY program.
The system parameter Ventilation Standby is used to set the deaeration time after the hourly circulation
of the system.
6.3 Calibrations
Note
With the 50 PSI ENVEC pressure transducer the potentiometer for
the zero-point calibration on P.C.B. LP 795 is no longer required.
A trimming potentiometer is therefore located on the printed circuit
board of the pressure transducer (calibration tolerance: +115 mbar).
– The switching threshold of the external tank transducer is set to approx. 900 ohms.
– If the external tank-empty detector switches too early or too late, the operating point can be reset using
the potentiometer P1.
– Turn the potentiometer P1 clockwise: this permits better detection of fluids.
– Turn the potentiometer P1 counter-clockwise: this permits better detection of air.

Note
The tube length must be set correctly in the Settings menu of the
CDS 08.
If the tanks are connected using the white fabric-reinforced tube, an
additional 2 meters must be added to the actual tube length for safety
reasons.
If the tanks are connected using the black tube, the tube length must
be set to twice the length in the Settings menu because of the larger
cross-section.

Approx. 19 V are supplied from the transformer via the fuse S1 3.15 A MT to the rectifier GL 1. Four
capacitors C4 to C7 are connected in parallel as charging electrolytic capacitors on the DC side of the
rectifier. The smoothed voltage is available at the connector strip X3, terminal KL2. LED 5 serves only to
indicate whether voltage is available.
Two 15-volt circuits are supplied from the transformer via the two fuses SI3 2A MT and SI2 1A MT to the
rectifier GL 2. On the DC side of the rectifier, the charging electrolytic capacitors C1 for the positive voltage
and C2 for the negative voltage are connected as smoothing capacitors. The smoothed DC voltage is
supplied to the voltage regulator IC 1 for the positive voltage and IC 2 for the negative voltage. The voltage
regulators generate voltages of +12 volts and –12 volts; C 8 for the positive voltage and C 9 for the
negative voltage. C12 and C13 are blocking capacitors for high-frequency oscillation.
LD 2 and LD 3 are pure indicating diodes which require the presence of ±12 volts.
The 5-volt generation is not required in the CDS 08 and is, therefore, not fitted.
O Power-on logic
The line power on and off logic is supplied by a separate power supply unit, consisting of the transformer
TR 1, the rectifier GL4, and the smoothing capacitor C 14. The voltage regulator IC 4 stabilizes the supply
voltage at +12 V. LED 4 serves only to indicate whether the internal supply voltage is available.
Power on is executed by pressing the I/O key at the input connector X3, pin 2, against ground. This causes
C 21 to discharge via R 14. When the switching threshold of gates IC 7, pins 1 and 2, is reached, output
pin 3 becomes high. With the rising slope, the data flip-flip IC 5, pin 3, is triggered. The data flip-flop which
is connected as a toggle changes its state at output pin 1 each time the I/O key is pressed. In this manner,
the line power relays RL 1 and RL 2 are switched on and off via the transistor T 1. D 1 serves as a free-
wheeling diode. Switching the system on or off by pressing the I/O-button unintentionally is prevented by
a time delay of approx. 1 second, consisting of C 21 and R 14.

Approx. 19 V are supplied from the transformer via the fuse S1 3.15 A T to the rectifier GL 1. Four
capacitors C4 to C7 are connected in parallel as charging electrolytic capacitors on the DC side of the
rectifier (C22 is not fitted). The smoothed voltage is available at the connector strip X3, terminal KL1. LED
5 serves only to indicate whether voltage is available.
The two 15-V supplies from the transformer via the fuses SI 2 (1Am) and SI 3 (2Am) to the rectifiers GL
2 and GL 3. On the DC side of the rectifiers, C1 (for the positive voltage) and C2 (for the negative voltage)
are connected as smoothing electrolytic capacitors. The smoothed DC voltages are supplied to the
voltage regulator IC 1 for the positive voltage and IC 2 for the negative voltage. The voltage regulators
generate voltages of +12 volts (3 A) and -12 volts (1 A). Used as blocking capacitors for the high-
frequency oscillation tendency are C8 and C12 for the positive voltage and C9 and C13 for the negative
voltage.
LED 2 and LED 3 are pure indicating diodes for the presence of the ±12-V voltage.

The P.C.B. LP 795A comprises the entire control for the CDS 08, consisting of analog section,
microcontroller and actuator activation.
Circuit diagram 1/3 comprises the reference voltage generation as well as the measurement circuits for
temperature, pressure and conductivity. Circuit diagram 2/3 comprises the microcontroller including its
peripheral equipment. Circuit diagram 3/3 comprises the power output stages for the DC motors and the
solenoid valves.
O Description
Page 1 comprises the reference voltage generation as well as the analog circuits for temperature,
pressure and conductivity.
The +10-V reference voltage is generated by IC 13. This voltage is used to obtain +5REF and +COND by
means of voltage division with R30/R32/R36. +COND is used to generate the -COND (identical in
amount) by means of the inverting amplifier IC 17/3.
The temperature measuring circuit consists of the OP IC 17/1, whose non-inverting input is applied to half
the reference voltage (+5REF). The NTC is connected in series with the linearizing resistor R25 in the
inverting branch. The load resistor R26 and the feedback resistor R24 have been selected so that, across
the desired range of measurement of 0 – 80 degrees, an output voltage of 0 – 5 V is achieved. C21 serves
to smooth the output voltage.
The pressure measuring amplifier consists of the OPs IC 18, which are connected as instrument
amplifiers. P1 can be used to calibrate the offset of the pressure sensor. The circuit delivers an output
voltage of 0 – 5 V at a pressure of –0.2 bar to 2.8 bar.
The conductivity measurement circuit is an oscillator whose conductivity cell serves as a frequency-
defining resistor. A voltage ramp is compared with the cell voltage which serves as a comparator
threshold. The oscillator consists of a buffer amplifier (IC 12/1) with a voltage divider (R44/CD cell) on its
output side, the integrator IC 24/1, the comparator IC 21, and two analog converters. The -COND
reference voltage is supplied to the amplifier IC 24/1 and the integrator IC 24/2 via the analog switch IC
20-14/15. A positive voltage which reaches the CD cell via R44 and the relay contact RL2 develops at IC
24/1. The partial voltage developing at the CD cell is supplied to the comparator IC 21 via IC 20-3-4. The
inverting input of IC 21 is connected to the output of the integrator which, at its output, delivers a voltage
ramp with constant slope. The comparator output remains high as long as the integrator voltage is less
than the cell voltage. As soon as the switching threshold is reached, the comparator changes its state and
reverses IC 20. As a result, +COND is applied to IC 24/1 and IC 24/2. The polarity of the cell voltage as
well as the slope of the integrator ramp are reversing. At the same time, the comparator threshold is
applied to ground, so that this switching state is preserved until the integration capacitor C30 has
discharged. Then the comparator changes its state again, and the cycle is repeated. At a conductivity of
0 mS/cm (infinite cell resistance), the entire output voltage of IC 24/1 drops at the cell. C30 must then be
charged until it has reached this voltage, before the comparator changes its state. In this case, this results
in the lower frequency limit of the circuit. This frequency can be defined via the integrator resistor R39. If
the conductivity rises, only a partial voltage drops at the cell; the switching threshold is reduced and, thus,
the frequency increased. The slope (frequency / conductivity) can be determined using the voltage divider
Rxx.
The two relays RL2 and RL3 are used to calibrate the circuit whenever the system is switched on. The
controller first activates RL2 and, with open RL3 (conductivity = 0), measures the zero-point frequency of
the circuit. Then, with RL3 in the stead of the CD cell, the reference resistor R47 is connected. This
resistance is dimensioned such that it approximately corresponds to the minimum cell resistance for the
desired range. These two values can be used to determine the slope. Subsequently, RL2 is used to
reconnect the CD cell.
The feedback capacitor C29 improves the switching behavior of the comparator. The output signal of the
comparator is used to obtain a TTL-satisfactory level via R41 and R42.
Page 2 comprises the 80C535 microcontroller IC7 including peripheral equipment. The 80C535 is
provided with six I/O ports and 8 analog inputs. The ports serve as inputs and outputs for keys, valve
drivers, lamp drivers, etc. (see I/O definitions "CDS_IO.H").
Two of the analog inputs are used to measure temperature and pressure. The resistors R20 and R22 limit
the input current flowing into the controller inputs in case the range is exceeded (<0 V, >5 V). The output
frequency of the conductivity measuring circuit is supplied onto the counter input T1 (pin 26) of the
controller. The controller reads out the counter reading every half-second, using it to determine the
conductivity.
The interface module IC4 assumes the task of converting the level of the RS232 interface from TTL to
±10 V and vice versa.
As is typical for controllers of the 8051 series, the multiplexed address/data bus of the 80C535 is
connected to the EPROM IC15, the external RAM IC14, the digital-to-analog converter IC11, and the
buffers IC19 and IC22, via the address latch IC16.
The external peripheral modules can be addressed in the address range above the RAM. The addresses
are decoded by means of the GAL IC10. With the READ and WRITE lines of the controller included,
linking of the address lines A13..A15 results in the following I/O addresses:
– DAC_OUT (2000H):
The digital-to-analog converter IC11 is switched such that it can deliver an output voltage of 0..10 V.
This voltage serves as the rated value for the pump output stage.
– DIG_IN (4000H):
The input buffer IC19 is provided with 8 digital inputs for the DIP switch IC23, the external tank-empty
sensors, and the external heater module.
– DISPLAY (6000H):
The data for activation of the VF display is transmitted to the front panel via the output buffer IC22.
Page 3 comprises the circuit sections for activation of the actuators. Via the level shifters IC8/IC9 and the
FETs T4..T11, the controller port P1 switches the pump and valve outputs.
The PWM controller IC2 is supplied with an analog rated value of 0 – 10 V by the DAC IC11 (page 2). The
internal OP compares this value with the current pump voltage. If necessary, the pulse duty factor is
readjusted. Amplification is set to 2.5 by the ratio of the resistors R6/R5 to R12/R7. Thus, a rated value of
0...10 V causes a pump voltage of 0...25 V. The resistors R13 and R14 provide for an admissible common-
mode range of the internal OPs. The resistor R10 loads the DAC to such a degree that the latter's output
voltage can fall to values of almost 0 V. The open-collector outputs at the pins IC2-12/13 activate the
quasi-Darlington stage T3/T2 via R9. The output voltage for the motors is available as filtered DC voltage
after the storage inductance coil DR4. The voltage drop at the current sensing resistors R16/R19 caused
by the motor current is supplied to the current-limiting input IC2-4, limiting the output current to 4 amperes.
The dual optocoupler IC1 is intended to isolate the potentials between the tank-empty sensors and the
controller inputs.
O General notes
The P.C.B. LP 796 comprises the keypad, the LED indicators and the VF display connection for the
CDS 08. The board is connected to the controller board LP 795 by means of a 34-pin ribbon cable.
O Description
On the anodic side, the LED indicators are connected to the +12-V voltage. They are energized by the
corresponding Darlington circuits on the P.C.B. LP 795 via variable multipliers.
The keys switch the corresponding inputs of port 4 of the 80C535 to ground.
The connections for the VF display module are connected through from X1 to X2.
O Structure
The remote control indicator board is accommodated in a separate housing and is connected to the
CDS 08 via a 9-pin connector.
O Functions
When the key in the remote control indicator is actuated, the binary counter IC1 4060 is enabled by means
of a low level at the reset input. The counter is operated with a clock pulse frequency of approx. 250 Hz.
By means of the wiring at pin 14/output 8, the clock pulse is divided by 256 (flashing frequency of approx.
1 Hz), thus energizing the "Standby" LED and , inverted via T3, the "Supply" LED. After division by 2048
at the connector pin 1/Q12, a high level is applied after approx. 8 seconds. This level switches T4 and
generates a 12-V level at X1/pin 6. Using the jumper J1, this output level can be inverted by T6. This
request signal is supplied to the CDS 08.
The signals are supplied to the remote control indicator via an OC driver ULN 2003A. The audible alarm
is activated via IC3A-IC3D, in addition to the visual alarm (red). Using IC2A, the alarm level can be
reduced by actuating the key. P2 defines a "loud" level; P1 defines a "reduced" level.

The status indicator control is activated via a conductivity sensor (CD sensor). Red light indicates that the
connected tank is empty. Green light indicates that the connected tank is ready for operation.
If an external tank sensor is addressed, the "GND" signal is supplied to the connection terminal 5 (for tank
sensor 1) and connection terminal 10 (for tank sensor 2) respectively.
This signal causes a relay to pick up, whose changeover contact switches the red LED off and, because
of the jumpered pressure sensor, the green LED on via a further changeover contact.
If the signal light is red, the "GND" changeover signal for the CDS 08 is made by means of a transistor
(T1 or T2 = BC 107).
The main components of the conductivity-controlled tank-empty detector are the two sensor electrodes
(CD cell at X2/1 and 2), which are separated by a glass cuvette, and the comparator circuit OP2.
The output of an oscillator circuit (pin 7 OP1) feeds a transformer L1 which, on the one hand, DC-
decouples the test voltage at the sensor electrodes and, on the other, makes available a better-to-
evaluate signal by transforming the impedance.
If, for instance, the tank is reaching empty, the impedance of L1 rises (by the transformation ratio of L1 =
12 V / 220 V). The voltage at R6 drops. C7 is discharging. Now, the signal is supplied to the comparator
via a rectifier. This desired-and-actual-value comparator now generates a signal for differentiating the
following two states:
– Fluid present (L) (i.e. T1 is disabled, LD1 is off).
– Fluid not present (H) (i.e. T1 is conducting, LD1 is on).
Calibration: The switching threshold is set to approx. 900 ohms; any further calibration is not required. If,
however, the tank still switches over too early or too late, the operating point can be set using the
potentiometer P1. Clockwise adjustment: permits better detection of fluid. Counter-clockwise adjustment:
permits better detection of air.
