allowable materials:  The article will be uploaded to SIMON at 8.00am. It will be placed in
General Documents with the title Analysing Argument SAC material 2020.
The article will be based on Australia’s 2018 PISA results.
 You are to download the article and begin reading and annotating it.
 During scheduled English classes that day, students will be given 45
minutes to work on their task.
 Mrs Johnstone’s class in period 2 (period 1 of double will be
spent on other aspects of the course)
 Ms Kendall’s class in period 3
 Ms Black’s class in period 5
 You may type or handwrite your analysis. It must be finished and
uploaded to SIMON no later than 5.10pm. After 5:10pm, uploads will be
flagged as late and will receive a zero percentage.
 When submitting the assessment, students should include a scanned,
attached or photographed copy of their annotations of the article.

Students are encouraged to download the article as a word document from


SIMON; type their name on the line provided (student declaration),
annotate the text in this document and type their analysis beneath it,
submitting the one document on SIMON as their SAC upload.

Students may handwrite or type the analysis as they wish. You are permitted pens,
pencils, highlighters and a dictionary.
No other materials will be allowed during the SAC writing time. Students are not to
communicate with their peers during the assessment period. They may not use the
internet for any purpose. They may not use mobile phones for any purpose except to
photograph their finished work and annotated sheet if need be.

Analyse the use of argument and persuasive language in a text that presents a point of view on an issue currently debated
in the media.
