(H10HC-Hid-e-4)

Learning Objective:

Demonstrates competence in applying knowledge of global health initiatives to

national or local context.

Key Concepts
(Physical Education & Health 10 TG 243-275/LM, 257 – 281)

 Health Trend- the inclination to proceed in a certain direction or at a certain rate; used to
describe the prognosis or course of a symptom, disease, or methods of disease management.

 Health Issues-occurs when the normal metabolism of the body failed or altered
due to pollutant, pathogen or other means that cause health problem which are
considered as disease.

 Health Concern- is a health related matter that is of interest, importance or worry

to someone, who may be the patient, patient's family or patient's health care
provider.

 Common Health Trends, Issues and Concerns in the National Level:

 Reproductive Health- crucial for it paves the way for social and economic
development. The health of the newborn will be dependent on the health of the
parents, particularly the mother.

 AIDS/ HIV- highly infectious through unprotected sexual intercourse,

breastfeeding (of an infected mother to infant) and blood transfusion/injecting
drugs (needles used form infected patients).

 Teen pregnancy- remains a major contributor to maternal and child mortality.

Complications relating to pregnancy and childbirth are the leading cause of death
for girls aged 15-19 globally. Pregnant girls and adolescents also face other health
risks and complications due to their immature bodies.

 Substance Use and Abuse- usually means drugs and alcohol. These are two areas
we don't often associate with seniors, but seniors, like young people, may self-
medicate using legal and illegal drugs and alcohol, which can lead to serious health
consequences.

 Tobacco Use is the single greatest preventable cause of illness and premature
death in the U.S. Tobacco use is now called "Tobacco dependence disease." To
protect people from the sale, use and advertisement of hazardous tobacco the
government provided the Republic Acft No. 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of
2003.

 Social health can be defined as our ability to interact and form meaningful
relationships with others. It also relates to how comfortably we can adapt in social
situations. Social relationships have an impact on our mental health, physical
health and mortality risk.

 Cybercrime

 Child Pornography

 Hazing

 Blood Donation

 Safety in the Environment

 Pollution- is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the
environment dirty and not safe or suitable to use. And this has been a long
problem in the Philippines.

 Road Safety /Motor vehicle injuries- are linked by factors related to the roads
such as the speed and volume of traffic, which can cause injuries and
prevent opportunities for healthy activity outside of the home.
