I. FIRST PART ABOUT THE PERIOD THAT WE HAD CHOSEN

CLASSICAL A. ORIGIN/SOURCE OF INFLUENCE IN THE ARTWORK

PERIOD OF THIS PERIOD
In the early 5th century Greek artists began consciously to
attempt to render human and animal forms realistically. This
entailed careful observation of the model as well as
understanding the mechanics of anatomy - how a body adjusts to
a pose which is not stiffly frontal but with the weight shifted to
one side of the body, and how a body behaves in violent motion.
The successors to the archaic kouroi, mainly athlete figures, are
thus regularly shown 'at ease', one leg relaxed, with a
complementary shift in the shoulders, and the whole emphasized
by contrasts of rigid and relaxed in limbs.
The new style is best expressed in the Parthenon marbles of
about 450-435 BC but there was a preceding style of some
importance - the Early Classical, sometimes called the Severe
Style, which is exemplified in the sculptures for the Temple of
Zeus at Olympia. Here the figures are mainly lifelike but drapery
forms are plainer (a change from the archaic Ionian chiton to the
more austere peplos for women), and there are deliberate
attempts at depiction of emotion in faces and of different ages in
rendering of bodies.
B. DESCRIBE THE DOMINANT CHARACTERSTICS. GIVE
AN EXAMPLE
The classical period lasted from about 500 B.C.E (B.C) to 500
C.E. (A.D). The classical artists of Greece and Rome created
sculptures, pottery, murals, and mosaics. The purpose of much of
their art was to show the importance of people and leaders, as
well as gods and goddesses. Here are additional characteristics of
classical art:
Artist valued balance and harmony.
Figures were lifelike but often idealized (more perfect
than in real life).
Figures were nude or draped in togas (robes).
Bodies looked active, and motion was believable.
Faces were calm without emotion.
Scenes showed either heroic figures or real people doing
tasks from daily life.
In paintings, there was little background or sense of
perspective (for example, showing people and objects
bigger or smaller to make them look closer of farther
away)

D. INSIGHT AND REACTION ABOUT THE INFORMATION

GATHERED
Defining what classical art actually constitutes is another story.
We can broadly pinpoint its origins and describe it in a few
choice words, but the truth about this art form is that classical art
encompasses a whole cast of celebrated artists who draw on
various tenets of the style. As this style spans centuries, there is a
wealth of artists to pick from but certain ones stand out. Art
insiders and beyond will be familiar with many of these names,
and each of them helped encapsulate the distinct classical style of
their time.

II. SECOND PART ABOUT HOW THE DIFFERENT PERIODS HAD

DEVELOPED

PERIOD DEFINE THE FOLLOWING PERIODS ON ITS DEVELOPMENT:

A. CLASSICAL 1. PAINTING
PERIOD A. Greek Era
Most commonly found in vases, panels and tomb.
Most of the subjects were battle scenes, mythological
figures, and everyday scenes.
It reveals a grasp of linear perspective and naturalist
representation.
B. Roman Era
Most of the paintings were copied or imitated from
Hellenic Greek paintings.
Fresco technique was used in brightly colored
backgrounds.
Roman paintings have a wide variety of subjects,
animals, everyday life, still life, mythological subjects,
portraits and landscapes.

underworld in his chariot, abducting Persephone, while a woman at the
lower right looks up in horror.
2. ARCHITECTURE
A. Greek Era
Temples consisted of a central shrine or room in an
aisle surrounded by rows of columns. These buildings
were designed in one of three architectural style or
orders; Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.
B. Roman Era
They built sturdy stone structures both for use and to
perpetuate their glory.
The emperors erected huge halls and arenas for public
games, baths and procession.

CREATED A PIECE RELATED TO ARCHITECTURE

Parthenon, temple that dominates the hill of the Acropolis

at Athens. It was built in the mid-5th century BCE and
dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena Parthenos (“Athena
the Virgin”). The temple is generally considered to be the
culmination of the development of the Doric order, the
simplest of the three Classical Greek architectural orders.
3. SCULPTURE
A. Greek Era
Greek sculptures had finally evolved and showed all the
points of human anatomy and proportion.
Began making life-sized sculptures, rather than
portraying pharaohs or gods
B. Roman Era
Most Roman sculptures are made of monumental terra-
cotta.

This Roman bronze is a smaller copy of Myron's

Discobolos (460-450BC), which is, in the words
of art historian Kenneth Clark, “the enduring
pattern of athletic energy.”

III. LAST PART IS ABOUT OUR REFLECTION/ INSIGHT AS TO HOW THE

DIFFERENT PERIODS OF THE ART IS INFLUENCIAL TO YOU AND TO
THE SOCIETY
Discuss the lessons REFLECTION/INSIGHT:
based on your insight Art is a part of who I am. I think art can be very therapeutic for
and reflection as to some, but for others, it’s just an outlet for emotions. I grew up with
how the art in the people who were very artistic and had a great influence on my life.
different periods Since the very beginning of mankind, humans have continually used
comes in influence their creativity for everything from the construction of houses to
you as a society painting on cave walls. As time passed, arts has begun to take many
different forms, including architecture, photography, fashion,
performing arts, tapestry and many others. Interestingly, arts are
now nothing like what they used to be years ago as new techniques
are constantly being developed and technology quickly advances.
Arts began to take many different forms such as architecture,
photography, fashion, performing arts, tapestry, and many others. It
has often been said that art is not as important as mathematics,
science, and subjects that only require logical thinking. Since early
childhood, many parents encourage their children to concentrate on
“left-brain” subjects, as they are more likely to bring success in the
future. Although this to some extent is true, this topic can still be
argued because artistic individuals are arguably the ones who come
up with the best ideas. Arts are mostly about expressing feelings
rather than producing ideas. As true as this interpretation might be,
art can still have a great impact on the world and even affect lives.
Looking into the past, people can see many ways types of art such as
architecture and painting have affected the world. Many people find
art as a great way to appreciate human talent and skill. Art truly
fascinates many with its vast variety, and power to improve, change
and persuade the whole world.

In the end, it is of great importance to many to appreciate art and

understand that a huge part of our world is made by artists. Things
we see daily, such as buildings, clothing items, advertisements,
appliances, and much more were once just an idea in someone’s
mind.
